Hey guys came across this bit of vandalism on commercial job. Tried scrubbing, scraping, acetone and white spirits and nothing worked... not even a little bit.

Originally I just thought it was paint, maybe but I usually can remove stuff like that easily. You can run your fingers over it and you can feel slight different texture. I asked them to look at CCTV to try get some idea of what happened. To me it looks possibly like a spray can that maybe might have some chemical in it that has either damaged the glass or I'm just not using the right chemical to remove it. Surely not a chemical burn?

Any ideas ?

Take a look at this. It’s an acid etched store front. Looks like a new bit of glass or needs polishing out.

Hey mate cheers for posting I was looking at acid etch earlier and I agree think that is exactly what is on the window. Apparently grinding it out and polishing is only way to remove it. Unfortunately I don't have those specific tools.

I've ordered a polishing piece for a drill and I do have cerium oxide so might give that a bash. I think they may have to get a glass repair crowd out. I would love to know if anybody has encountered anything like this.

No worries mate, glad to help. Go careful with that polishing bit. Get the glass too hot and it’ll go on you. [emoji1303]

Used some Cerium Oxide on it and hand scrubbing with pad, got small bit off but be there all week. Referred them to glass repair specialists. Just said it was out of my remit and i'm not insured to that type of work as it's a different profession. They seem happy enough, hopefully the crowd I recommended do a good job lol

Well done for having a go anyway. Sometimes we just have to admit defeat and move along. I researched getting into the glass polishing thing once and decided to leave it. As someone else on here said we’re cleaners not renovators. ??

Yup that was exactly it mate, enough was enough. I did look at the full kit and it's about £600-700 and obviously a training course. Could be an option but I would imagine different insurance & potential to destroy glass if not done properly.
