Bit of advice for parts for my van pls

WCF

Help Support WCF:

Buy something bigger than 85ah though, I had two. Both nothing but trouble, some days I would go home without completing my day. With the 115ah I have never bench charged it. Always charged via smart relay and always have power.

View attachment 3791 if you buy a leisure battery get one with 2 terminals on each side, on these ones you can use the smaller pins to fit a charger connections ,

i got a numax charger, comes with fittings to clamp onto the smaller pins, you leave these on the battery along side the main pin clamps. with the numax charger you just take in van with extension cable, connect charger up and leave in van while charging up.

its in my posts .

with help off guys on here i chose this charger, glad i did.

i had visions of bringing 110 battery out of van to charge up, ive never had to bring it out of van, just charge up on a sunday, that does me.View attachment 3791

I would change the inlet filter to this one
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CARAVAN-MOTORHOME-BOAT-SHURFLO-WATER-PUMP-FILTER-SCREW-ON-TYPE-255-215-/371061372188?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item5664fb351c

It allows you to fit the filter onto the pump so the filter bowl is at the bottom.
It would be interesting to see how you get on with that leisure battery. It would appear to be made by Numax as the specs are identical including the weight. They also have similar part numbers.

Numax have a 3 year warranty and the Powerline has a 2 year warranty. Probably doesn't matter anyway as they won't give a warranty on a leisure battery used for wfp.

Couldn't you just use a split charge relay and a normal car battery or is it better to have split charge relay and lesuire battery?

Just wondering as I'm about to kit my van out also and already have a 30amp relay and car battery to hand

A leisure battery is better as its designed for a gradual discharge where a car battery is designed to discharge a high amperage for a brief moment starting the engine. The internal plates of a leisure battery are much thicker than the same plates in a car battery.

If you already have a car battery then use it until you get to the point of needing to replace it.

TBH Benji I would always prefer a leisure battery, however there is also the option of a traction battery, which is good in both applications although very much more expensive.

A local windie has 2 batteries. 1 is a leisure and the other a starter battery. He takes one out with him and leaves the other on charge. He has recently replaced both with the same, one of each. The previous set gave him 3 years on the leisure battery and 2 1/2 years on the starter battery.

By the time he took pricing into consideration (starter battery is usually cheaper) they worked out at a similar price to service life.

Another windie says the best batteries he has ever had are Banner, and he uses a Banner starter battery, but they are more expensive.
