Buying a van?

It's going In soon for its first service. So the van is a year and half old. They said every 30k or two years.

I wouldn't wait until 30k

I wanted it done at 10k but been wayyyyyyyy to busy last year. Hoping to fix that this year.

They road tested the custom for 100,000s of miles before sale so I would imagine waiting until 30k wouldn't be dangerous.

But when I sell it I can say it's got full ford service history and was always serviced before it was due /emoticons/smile.png

Ive got a transporter, and its a fantastic van. i think i might switch to a new transit connect, with the 1000kg payload so i can still use the same size tank but in a more compact van, which should be easier to park...

Transit connect with a 400L full of water struggled to reverse of one of my customers drives.

I know of a cleaner who has gone from connect to custom. Same issue. Struggle to pull weight.

I only carry a 350l, but its a T32 which will should comfortably take 750l or so...

try having a old shape expert 1.9d with a 650 in and you will know what stuggleing is lol

I use a Vauxhall combo lwb 1000kg payload and you can fit poles in back.I had the floor speedlinered which if Ifyou plan on keeping the van for a while I would recommend.

I looked at the new transit connect but they were very new out at the time and very pricey.

1000 kg payload means a 1000 litre tank? I reckon 400 litres would last me awhile until built up round, but is it worth getting that size, and just store water in van?

All vans are different.but a 1000 litre tank definitely would not fit in my van you have to allow for the frame,reel,poles,trad tools fuel,roof rack,ladder ,passenger all of these would add weight probably around 300-400kg.

Putting a 1000 litre tank in a van like mine would put it over weight.

A 650 litre tank is the most I've seen.

No.

Payload is the total weight the van can carry including driver, passenger, diesel in tank, roofracks, ladder, towbar, tank, water in tank, leisure battery, hose reel, poles and anything else you carry. So with my swb Citroen Relay, full 650 liter tank of water, the 2 of us with hose reels, ladders, roofrack and towbar, I recon I'm close to my 1154 kg payload.

Carry only sufficient water for your daily requirements. We found that a single operator very really needs any more than 500 liters per day (large commercial), much less on residential +- 350 liters. Carrying extra is added wear and tear on your van. Van insurance is easier to get with a 500 liter tank fitted. We have/had a 500 liter tank in a Tansit Connect LWB T220 (825kg payload) and a 500 liter tank in a Peugeot Partner 800 LX (800 kg payload.)

Could you get a good enough one for £3000? How do you waterproof it? I thought - small - medium sized (Renault Vivaro), but not a Renault as I heard engines are bad.
Where's the best place? Auto Trader or a dealer? I heard you need to check the suspension as previous tradesmen owners might have knackered it. And it's best to avoid previous owners who were brickies or roofers and were carrying heavy loads!

I'm seeing 'em everywhere now, yeah like you say perfect size. I'm on a 350ltr now but want at least 500 maybe 650 next.

It'll be proper sorted when i've finished with it, i fricken love messing with sheeeeeet like that. I havent had a decent project for a year or so now

Which connect was that? I have a 1.9 connect and it can definitely pull its weigh, plus more. I have a 500l tank

As this is a part time gig for me but with views of expansion. Maybe I should start off with a 200 litre tank (wouldn't even need that at moment) and strap it in with those strap thingees attached to hooks/bolts in the van. Then if I wanted a bigger tank- throw the smaller one out and strap in a bigger one! Are the tanks quite cheap? I thought if the tank was bolted down in a cage or something it would be harder to get out! A 200-300 litre tank and a mower and some other crap would still wouldn't get in a Berlingo I suspect! Anyone have a car and van? or is this too expensive?

When you only have a limited budget the most important thing to remember is to buy something that has a rock solid reputation. My first van was a Vauxhall combo 25000 miles £2,500 1.7 diesel bulletproof Isuzu engine cheap parts compatible with Vauxhall Corsa.

I would stay clear of Vauxhall Vivaro Renault Trafic Nissan Primastar as they have many issues not just a gearbox but also injectors which are thousand pound a time.

Ford Transit Connect has good build quality and cheap parts but avoid previous Model Ford Transit vans as they have rust issues

Someone on here said the new transit customs aren't all that. Anyone know about these vans because I like the look of them and thinking of getting a new one in the spring?
