Hi everyone, first time post on here so first and foremost… hello! 👋🏻

As we are approaching the freezing months I was wondering if people had any good recommendations for keeping their equipment from freezing:

A) in the van. Yes I can plug a heater in but I only have on street parking so don’t really want to be running extensions from my living room across the road. Does anyone have any good recommendations for insulating or covering their pipes and hose reels?

B) in the garden. My filtration system is in a small Keter shed which I plug into my van. Any recommendations to protect the RO and filters?

Thanks in advance all!

The one in the garden is Fu**ed mate, There isn't enough insulation to make a Keter storage system survive minus temps IMHO. With regards to your van insulate it like a camper. Take your poles in, reel too if possible.

Not really the immersion will keep the water warm but you will have to drive side to side to get it to mix round. You would still need to take hoses etc ideally have both

Totally wrong my van is toasty like a massive radiator the water stay warm to the end of the day I have fixed x2 electric reels plus my tank is insulated and still warms the van up lovely.
Not sure what immersion set up you have seen and used but mine and a couple of others I know as completely opposite to what you say.

My main reel is on top of the tank so hose is toasty warm from the off 👍

I have installed well my friend as diesel heaters in a couple camper vans and shed that are great if especially if you can’t run extension cable out but I know what I prefer 👍

Well I don't think mine would stop it all freezing maybe as the tank is insulated well. But it works for you so great

HI All, just wondering if anyone has tried the Unger stingray and what's your opinion on it. I've just bought one and it seems to leave a lot of residue on the windows. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to stop it from happening.
Any suggestions would be much apricated.
Phil

The cloths have a limited lifespan. You can get a couple of panes of glass from one cloth and then you’re essentially smearing dirt around a window. It’s an expensive piece of kit only really valuable to amateur window cleaners.

Also, you posted this at the bottom of a random thread about cold water vans. You need to either start a thread about it or search for one and add to that.

I have to put up with street parking too. Two hot water bottles (furry covers off) and a cheap double duvet works for me. I put the one hot water bottle next to the reel, and the other over some exposed pipes. Then cover thoroughly with the duvet. It just about keeps everything above freezing point. Oh, and has already been pointed out, bring your pole inside. 👍🏻

In the early days, I had to process water overnight directly into my trailer. My 275gpd r/o used to sit outside next to my outside tap. When the r/o had finished in the morning, I brought it inside and put it in the bath.
I did this through 3 winters. Cold tap water going through the r/o stopped it freezing.

After that, I mounted the r/o permanently in the garage. I had a 100 watt light bulb in my workshop lead light. I covered the r/o with a towel and put the lead light under the towel below the r/o. That worked for another winter.

I then built a wooden cabinet when I upgraded my r/o to a 4040, now mounted on the garage wall. I have a frostat central heating controller linked to a greenhouse tube heater. When the inside temperature drops to 5 or 6 degrees, the heater comes on. It's worked fine for 12 years.

One of the other forum members also made an insulated wooden cabinet and did the same. He mounted his on an outside wall of his house under the eaves.

Couldnt get on with mine. You will need lots of extra pads. I either use a squeegee, mop and scrim cloth. Or carry a spray bottle with pure water in it and lightly spritz the pane then buff up with a clean microfibre cloth.
