DIY electric hose reel

WCF

Help Support WCF:

Any of you guys had any experience with electric hose reels, thinking about a DIY electric reel.
Power up hd had mine a couple of years works a treat 100m in around 30 seconds, would never go back to hand reeling again.

Reeling in by hand is getting a bit of a pain, getting reelers elbow ? Like the look of the Power up HD but £500 is a bit steep at the moment.

This would be quite easy a couple of small bike cogs and a chain attached to a good motor and a battery with an on off switch.

And just build it on a bit of wood ?

Where did you get the parts from Paul and what did you get. ??
I got two mini moto cogs, two chains (make sure they are compatible with the cogs) and 2 24v motors.

Cost around £100, all from eBay.

The centre hole in the cogs didn't allow the spindle from the reel through, they were too small. So I simply filed them out until big enough, it would of been much easier if I would of taken measurements first.

I bought a couple of switches for like £1.50 each and wired it all up to my battery, works perfectly.

I am working on a version with a motor from a cordless drill, a timing belt and 3d printed pulleys/cogs. Should be powerful enough and much smaller than the e-bike motors many use.

Lennie

Motors: 250 watt, 24 volt ebike/scooter chain driven

Chains: Mini moto 64 link 6mm (25h- compatible)

78 Tooth mini moto rear sprocket 6mm (25h)

Some thin wires live and neutral for wiring it up (sourced from an old kettle)

A switch! depending on how your van is set-up and where you want your switch to be. I mounted my switches on a board, the same board I used to cover the chains, I have a 6 year old boy that loves to play in dads van.

A couple of things I learned whilst doing it, firstly you have to space the reel within its frame so the chain can move freely. Washers will do this.

Secondly, you have to buy the right sprocket, the centre hole has to be big enough for the spindle to go through.

Thirdly, you do need some patience. It can be a bit tricky here and there.

Cheers Paul will take a look ??

Maybe try watching this from squeaky clean dave
Ive made my own reel. Had it 6 months and still going strong. I also followed squeaky clean daves youtube video.
Tip: make sure the chain is perfectly straight as the only problem i had was occasionally the chain would come off mid reel but as long as its straight it'll be ok. Cost me about £45 total... still going stong. Wont go back to hand reeling now no chance
