Fibredyne cfb plus filters

We use them without issue. We have been using 20" sediment and Fiberdyne filters for around 2 years on our 4040.
Unfortunately we have no cheap way of recording how effective our carbon block prefilters are. The swimming pool chlorine testers are not accurate enough for our purpose, so you can only go by the manufacturers service life specs, and dear I say it, your own experience.
We used GAC carbon block filters successfully for 6 years on our old 450GPD RoMan type ro filter. They were changed every 3 months religiously and the membranes lasted for 6 years. There were 2 of us using about 600 liters a day so we were processing around 2400 litres 3 days a week as a guestimate. (86500 litres used every 3 months seems about right. Unknowingly, we were using this GAC filter for 8.5 times longer than we should have. There is no service life label on the couple of 10" ones I still have left in the cupboard.)
When I changed to our 4040 setup I ordered a whole lot of sediment and GAC filters. I was shocked that these GAC filters now included a label listing the service life of 2500 gallons (USA gallons - about 10,000 liters.)
With three of us now using the water I would be changing the GAC filter every 7 days. I couldn't afford to experiement with my own changing cycle as 4040 membranes are expensive.
So I opted to use the Fiberdyne and change them every 75000 liters as per the manufacturers instructions. I have fitted a water meter into the line which triggers an alarm once the 75000 liters is reached. I then change the Fiberdyne filter. Our water is usually laden with sediment so can replace the sediment filter every 3 weeks, usually 3 to 4 sediment filters for each Fiberdyne filter.
Others may argue the this ifilter changing regime is overkill - they could be right, but I'm happy to follow the maker's instructions.

No, you just need one Fiberdyne filter as it replaces the sediment and carbon block filter. If you are going this route then just leave the second housing empty.
We use a sediment prefilter as our water is laden with sediment. I feel that the sediment filter will stop the Fiberdyne filter from getting full of sludge and debris. We usually replace the sediment filter 3 times before the Fiberdyne filter. No use spending all that money on a Fiberdyne only for it to end up all clogged up and useless half way through its life.
