Flow rate advise

WCF

Help Support WCF:

I tried upping my flow rate from 40 to 60 on Friday, at 40 it was around 1.25 ltr per minute so at 60 I would expect it to be around 2 ltr per minute.  I found it a lot easier to get rid of all the bits off the frames, I also found I was able to wash the glass faster, rinsing I didn't notice too much difference but at the edges of the glass where is doesn't always sheet, it made it a bit easier / faster.

The result was I was able to clean the window frames faster.  The actual jobs were pretty much on time (no quicker than price quoted).  So a 30 minute quoted job was 30 minutes.  However I must state that I do normally struggle to get most jobs done on the quoted time, so it was quicker than using it at 40.  I do wonder though whether this faster time is because I was more focused on doing the job quicker.

The actual water used was exactly the same as when I run it at 40, if anything it was a little less.

It's made me realise that quite a lot of the time taken must be setting up, packing away, having a brew, and the small talk with the customer.  Those 2 minutes puling everything out, 2 minutes putting it back, 2 minutes going back to van for another drum, 1 minute going back to grab a cloth, all adds up.

Next week I'm going to continue to experiment.  I think 50 might be the sweet spot.  I'm also going to try and speed up the loading and unloading of all equipment.  I'll adapt the trolley so it can hold cloths / degreaser / magic sponges etc.

I think the optimum would be a 4 way switch on the pole that lets you select 3 predetermined settings, something like 40, 50 and 60 and OFF.

So 25% and using  240 llitres and earning £240. I thought on compact residential work you weren't moving the van more than twice a day so spend most of the time washing windows. Not trying to argue but sometimes the figures banded about on here are getting as bad as the Facebook sites.

Yes we, the established cleaners, have some very good earning jobs but to claim that you can earn £1 a litre on anything more than the cream jobs is disingenuous.
Well said that man. Some people are trying to make themselves look top dogs and probably talking pony.

Agree. 50 is what I found best for me ?

This amazes me, the general consensus is that 2lpm is the best flow rate to clean windows so this means people are earning £120 an hour, really!!!!! Get real lads.

I can earn £500 a day on very good commercial work, down south, but a 650l tank won't last me the day.
You do realise I'm saying that I don't get anywhere near a pound a litre? I'm actually under 50p a litre on average over the month.

Yes and I posted to try and put a bit of reality into the post. When we have the likes of @steve garwoodthat has a well established very compact round in London who thinks it's pie in the sky that'll do for me. Yes I have jobs that I earn more than a £1 a litre but they are very few and far between and like you, on average, make less than 50p a litre.

A newbie might read this and think that's what he should be earning and because he's nowhere near that amount starts doubting himself. When that happens it's very hard to turn your thinking around.

I confess twas me who mentioned the £ a litre thing.

Yay, its not a figure to have to get. yes, would be great for sure, and can be done on some jobs, like a small, basic 8 windowed semi that could be £12 to £15 and wasnt really dirty. many jobs just use loads more water. Also its gotta be factored in the different areas pricing.

anyway, its boiling here, heavy booze up last night. waiting till later to venture out for round 2 (or 3, cant remmeber) ?

?

You're not the first to mention it, and won't be the last. Yes on some jobs it's more than achievable, just not on an average day. Enjoy your ?, I will be venturing out for a gallon or 2 later

Feel your pain. Went to watch my mates band last night and because we knew we all wasn’t working today, out came the jägers and Black Russians. Feel like swallowing a grenade ??.

Worth it though, epic night.
