View attachment 3081 iv recently been thinking of an idea to stop ladder slip and sideaways slip . the upper stiles of the ladder could have a line of square section "crocodile teeth" rivetted to the face that faces the wall . when you lean the ladder onto the sill the teeth hook over the sill

about 4 yrs ago ,on a day trip to Great Yarmouth ,i saw a windie with something very similar to this fixed on his ladder, it was made out of wood and it slid up and down the ladder stiles to suit the sill . iv kicked myself several times since cos i didnt take a closer look at it View attachment 3082

ive go a ankalad on my 3 tear its a very nce bit of kit but can b a pain in the ars on a standerd 2 tear ide use a foot the ladder

If I used an ankalad on my window cleaning ladder I think it would drive me to WFP within about two days. For gutter cleaning or any static work its great but when you are moving your ladder all day you'll be knackered not to mention how much it will slow your work down.

I use it mainly.for gutters etc but when you get to the awkward window you don't feel safe on then it comes out

Boar this mini standoff works just like your idea when placed on the sill

Plus no grey marks on the pvc from the ladder

The wheels have a square centre so the round bit squashes and you have a flat edge on the sill

yes, i agree. iv seen one or 2 windies who have a little standoff permanently fixed onto their ladders,i can see why.

yes m8 slimy or icey wet decking no prob takes some guts at first tho trusting a device but it cant go any were i wouldent wrk with out one on some jobs

I've done as few jobs where I've almost slipped over whilst carrying my ladders let alone trying to set it up. I would have to say most near misses have been on decking but I've been caught out on wet/slippery pavers as well.

The weather can play a big part too as you could be up a ladder when the surface is dry but then can turn very slippery with just a small amount of rain. I've also found the same can be said using wfp method as once the surface gets wet can also quickly turn very slippery be it by rain or from the runoff/overspray. Trying to use a gutter vacuum can also be quite fun on slippery surfaces too.

We all can take chances just to earn a few quid but we also have the option to stop the job at anytime when our safety and others become compromised no matter what kit we are using at the time.

Interesting to note my very first enquiry when I started to offer hard surface cleaning was from a lady that had slipped over just outside her back door on you guessed it slippery decking./emoticons/biggrin.png

and its this time of year where it catches the unwary. many of us need a "wake up call" to realize the danger of the job.

Makes you wonder why people have decking fitted as they cant walk safely on It for half of the year.
