Rishi Sunak is set to announce in next week's budget that red diesel - so-called because it is marked with a dye - will no longer attract a lower fuel duty. It currently accounts for about 15% of total diesel sales in the UK and costs the Treasury about £2.4bn a year in revenue.

I have three CHinese diesel heater.

1 campervan

2 mancave

3 workshop/shed

Run all three on heating oil 40p per litre I’m no mechanic I would have thought hot water systems would be very similar mechanically.

Yes very similar but most of the above are generally air

blown air heaters not water heaters

I used to use red diesel (from the local marina) as it was around 50p cheaper a litre. I was fascinated by the ‘characters’ that used to turn up with Jerry cans and 25 Ltr clear drums. I imagine they will lose a substantial amount of trade if this happens. They were telling me a while ago the suggestion from the government  was that heating can be run in red diesel but engines would have to use white diesel (road diesel). The marina near me haven’t the capacity to sell both so would consider not selling it at all. I use aviation fuel now as it’s the same price as red diesel just a lot cleaner (hotter) burning; plus it smells delightful!!!

Haha ? I know that but mechanically they are similar apart the water heat exchange that converts into hot water lol, on the other forum there is a member who as developed his own water hot water heater but using a CHinese air heater but adding a heat exchange he has done a great job and now as put them into production and selling them at a fraction of the cost of the likes of pure freedom/grippa. Unlike Diesel engine that require diesel whether red or normal it’s as a lubrication because of the moving parts, diesel heater don’t having moving parts  it’s just a glow plug and combustion chamber with a pulse pump to injected the fuel, that’s why  you shouldn’t use heating oil in a Diesel engine, heating oil is more refined and burns lots cleaner than diesel, millions of people have oil central heating instead of gas. My oil central heating provides all my household heating and HOT water ? it would run also on diesel or red diesel  but the formers are a lot more expensive and pollute more than heating oil.

Yes this is an Intresting subject I have read his thread about his heater and it looks good. Let’s just hope one doesnt go bang and set fire to or injure someone though , as he will be in some serious trouble as it’s not approved or got any safety certification unlike other manufacturers systems have , I think it’s good but still needs more refining to now get it approved .  The Americans run there heaters on kerosene as it runs cleaner I think that’s a bit like AV cat or AV gas used in aircraft fuel ?.. not totally sure though as the yanks call things different to us ,

Think we in the UK call heating oil kerosene 28 sec

could be wrong but I think the Yanks call petrol kerosene?

Wouldn’t think there is much to go wrong explosive wise with the air heater/water heater but again could be wrong.

I used to work on the oil rigs and I got talking to a geologist or some guy testing the oil. He told me how they refine oil to produce engine oil, diesel, paraffin and petrol, they boil it. Not sure if he was pulling my leg, he said its to do with evaporation and then condenses at different heights. fwiw

That’s a very simple explanation but yes that’s the basics of it

Where do you get aviation fuel from?

2 on 2 off and your life races in. You miss so many celebrations. I was only there a year after I went on a Government sponsored course. I was a roustabout and then a painter for a drilling company Santa Fe. One trip I was a fire watcher behind a welder. Must have had about 10 tea breaks each day. Every time I went on a new rig I got another 3 pair of orange overalls. Must have collected a dozen brand new overalls after the year when I took up another new job as a prison officer. My life resembles Mr benn, every year I was moving to another job until the Fire Service.

Santa Fe had the drilling contract for the Brent ‘Bravo’ Used to have a beer with the toolpusher night before crew change.

Part of my job consist of getting engineers to turn of smoke alarm fire detectors etc in modules where welders where working sometime these modules would be switched off for days so I had to organise fire watchers 24/7 as I couldn’t issue permits otherwise no one ever wanted the job as you could be sitting there for hours on end easy money if you are a lazy git lol, but soul destroying.

I had endless amounts of rigger boots, overalls, hard hats, coats etc safety was paramount.

was a great experience but glad I left it all behind and now just a mere windie. ?

Wasn't mad Danny by any chance? I was 24 and very exciting going to work on a chopper but as you say life is to short. I know a guy who was a level 3 absailer but brain pickled with drink. 3 weeks on and comes home with £10k and then 3 weeks on the drink. Its over for him now and not a lot to show for it all but he had a wonderful time. Smart guys invest the money on starting up their own company so they only need to do 10yrs max offshore. I suppose like what I am doing with my pension this balances all my outgoings. That's why everything I make goes on new equipment to make my job easier. My window cleaning was hard 2yrs ago when I started now its a breeze with the hotwater system. Folk thought I was mad to continually invest and work 7 days a week but you eventually get there. I turn work away now if it doesn't suit me. Only 2 things left to buy, a 5Kva Belle Genie and 6 Elite carbon gutter poles which I will get at the Manchester Cleaning Show on 26th &26th of this month.

His name was Simon, he like a drink also lol.

the Chopper flights was the worst thing I don’t like flying especially in a loud shaky helicopter ? white knuckled ride there and back for me.

The pilot would put the music on earphones and I would shut my eyes for the duration of the flight.

grippatank webasto water heaters are plumbed into your vans diesel tank so this is not an option..i only put £120-£140 a month into my van for everything anyway(hot water every day and driving to and from jobs).......
