Mixer valve problem!!diesel heater....

Last job of the day and the black mixer valve blew off the side of my heater and started spewing hot water all over the back of my van!

I managed to put the spring and plastic plunger thingy back in the heat exchanger hole and screwed the valve back on....just tested the heater and it seems to be fine now but any ideas why it came off?do you think the vibrations from driving could of caused it?not much thread on these valves!?

Is there not a screw in centre to hold the black cover inplace.

Yes,I've tightened that up too but the spring,plastic plunger and black stud with metal pin in the middle came spewing out of the valve hole with the hot water!

Looked like the white plastic plunger has deteriorate maybe where the screw goes in. If so then I would use a longer screw.

The plastic plunger goes inside the heat exchanger hole(with the spring over it).it has nothing to do with the screw in the centre of the mixer valve!?

You use it every day, surely you have to expect it will break down due to wear and tear

Looks like a dog has been chewing on the end of that plastic plunger, I'd get a new one sourced ASAP, sorry I can't be of any help

My comments are on the other forum. I only saw the post this morning on both forums. Yesterday was a busy day.

Is this the same mixer valve that gave you a problem 3 years ago?

I'm sure you will find the threads on the housing and/or plate (carrier?) have stripped, hence the reason why it's blown apart.

I always just fit a new one because I don't have the time to try and repair things as they usually break again.

Not to mention the frost stat is broken so oil rad in the back!

Fitted a new frost state but still like to put in an oil filled rad when I know it will be minus. Alternator needs replacing and soon my flywheel, as they say it comes in threes. Christmas tips coming in so might just cover it.

What I also should have mentioned is that you do need to Loctite the threads when assembling the new valve. They use Loctite 572, which works well.
