new van small budget

WCF

Help Support WCF:

Stevie. Just to toss a spanner in there I have a second hand 115 Trafic / Vivaro.

I LOVE IT and will buy another later this year. As I recall the rules are 2.0L and up and only 6 speed boxes NOT five speed.

I think early models had loads of issues but they've been about so long now they have it sorted.

Mine is an 07 with 164'000 and does not miss a beat.

Also remember your van will only last if YOU look after it.

I've got a 2007 primastar dci115, great van and hasn't missed a beat, its averaging 37mpg with a 600 litre tank and all my gubbins for work in it.

you say you had a people carrier before so do you need seats as well? I for that reason bought a LDV maxus, ex royal mail so the body is usually a little bumped here and there but engine is usually sound (and also no cambelt to worry about)

I have one, 6 seats, carpet and window cleaning gear and 350ltr tank with ease! 2.5T payload so does the job for me (and under 2k should get you a 2006-2007 model, any later and the bodywork is going to look very bad!)

Apart from the 1.6 which does seem to have a flaw with turbo starvationThe 2.0 hdi is hard to come buy now
Sad the 2.0hdi models are becoming scarce. It must be something to do with emissions. In my day the 2.0 hdi was better than the 2.2 hdi as a caravan tower in a C5, even although the 2.2 was a 136 hp and the 2.0 was a 110 hp.

Speaking to a local engine rebuilder in Middlesbrough last year and they say that the 1.6 is a better engine than the 2.0 hdi. Problem was incorrect servicing and oil in 1.6 engines caused problems.

Ye agree spruce the 1.6hdi is a good engine if serviced with the right oil not low grade there is a filter in the turbo feed pipe that clogs starving the turbo

I've bought few these over the years I always removed it and changed the oil straight away

Eviestevie,

Where is this filter please? I thought it was on the oil pipe up before the oil pump which would mean removing of the sump.

Agree spruce yes specially on the vivaro traffic etc primastar is also the sameThe boxer etc have 2.2 hdi in my opinion the French vans with the hdi engine are a while thrown together but there engine is proven bombproof
At least the PSA models have galvanized lower bodies which is more that Fiat do, or did as I'm not 100% sure of the latest models.

Spruce it's in the turbo oil feed pipe located near the bottom of the engine block no sump removal required

I no they reccomend if the turbo has gone on the hdi removal of sump and full overall is needed so it's a preventive measure but it's not un common for them to blow another turbo if when the new one is fitted the haven't followed the right cleaning percedure

Have you one of these spruce there a detailed vid on YouTube showing how to do it

If def no trained mechanic but i def no my vans and cars

If for some reason I fell ill and couldn't carry on windows I'd def go into second hand van sales

I've a 1.3 cdti vauxhall combo crew van £1800 on a 07 100.000 miles on her but still gives me close on 60mpg

Thank you. I will have a look. Probably why there is no warranty if a new pipe isn't fitted.

I know that if the turbo failed under warranty in my motor trade days, then it was a major repair.

The problem I had in the trade was that I worked for a main dealer. The sales manager got paid commission on the profit each new and used vehicle the dealership sold. His commission was a % of what when through the books that month.

On new van sales we worked to a year target because it was all about achieving the annual bonus with Citroen on fleet. So I was not interested in profit per unit, as I wanted to achieve the bonus at the end of the year for reaching sales target.

So it was not uncommon to sell a van below cost to achieve the sales needed.

But the sales manager's commission was penalized when this happened, so my deals weren't signed off. He didn't get commission on the annual bonus, so it was nothing but war.

well, my people carrier that I've been using to cart my wfp trolly around has gasped the last breath.I have a small £1500-2000 budget for a suitable van so its going to be an older one.

of the vans that you have used what are the ones i should be looking for and models to avoid.

I am a one man windy and expect to go through no more than 250ltrs in a day.

Cheers!
