Question to the commercial windys on here

100% of my work is commercial work in the retail sector indoors and out. For me, my schedule is rigid, have lot of stores in different shopping centres, done on specific days at specific times before centres opne. They range from once a month, to bi weekly, to 1, 2, 3 or 4 cleans per week etc. Just curious do any of you guys find it hard to take time off for holidays etc?

I have cover at the moment and have since I have been doing this which has been brilliant but the two lads (father and uncle) are getting on so I won't have it for much longer. It's good in a way that I have regular work but I do envy guys sometimes that make their own hours and can take a few weeks off and not worry if the work is there when they come back.  If i said i'm off on holidays to some store managers and that windows won't be cleaned, some of them would have a heart attack. It's a good complaint to have a fair amount of work but I do stress about on times about how I am going to cope with the workload in the coming year or so. Not looking to make millions, just a good wage and having a break away in the summer. 

Just wondering if anyone else struggles with this?

just ask them if they take holidays. When they say yes, they killed there own complaint.

Some would be fine with that, others not so much they would expect cover, some people are proper bleeps. Bit of a dilemma that so far I haven't really had to deal with as as have always had cover.

i do 10 hours a week some times more in retail and its a huge commitment  unless you can get cover of coarse if i were to have a holiday it would only be for 7 days max as most will under stand u need a brake  retail is a funny onld thing at times!

Yeah a two week holiday is a thing of the past for me. It's great to have the regular work and alot indoors but the expectation to always be there can be a killer sometimes

I do a bit of retail but not every day.

When I go away I just move the cleans along a couple of days letting the shops know before hand and most are good.Making sure they still get the same number of cleans that month.

But I only go away for 5 days or a week at a push.

failing that I have a couple of mates that will cover them for me.

I much prefer long weekends, get work done by Thursday evening and have Friday to Monday away.

Exactly the same boat as you mate. Love my weekends away but I would kill for a 2 week break.
