SHOCKED INDEED

A lady came up to me today and asked if I'd do her house front and back. I went and had a look, four up top, four bottom, two doors. I thought fifteen minutes so quoted £7:50. She looked shocked, I wondered what I'd done, did she perhaps want just the upstairs doing? She called her husband over "seven pounds fifty" she said, still looking shocked. He said " We've been paying twenty pounds"! next door are paying the same apparently, so I think I'll be picking that up. It's a shame I didn't know beforehand. I don't know who this windy is, I thought I knew all the ones in my area.

yep ....it happens...and then it annoys the hell out of you....

i priced one in the worst rain ever whilst she was waiting for me.....i said £12....and she jumped at it...

when i got the rest i found out the other windy charged £15 and so i of course stuck at that....i hated that mistake....of course it went back to £15 as soon as...

its better to say too much and if they complain adjust down maybe...but hindsight is a great thing....i want to price all jobs when no one is in and i want to walk around three times and then...stick something extra on as i always undercharge...leave it through the letterbox...they either want me or they dont.....

From what you described, around here that would be about £12-14 (inc frames+sills).

I just got a message from a woman to say yes to her 20 quid one off job and yes to the first clean and monthly thereafter on her new house she is moving into

The 1 off is 20 quid for 1 patio door 1 kitchen window and 1 upstairs window front and back..moving into a 3 bed

Have started charging more for firsts now

£70.50p ...bless her cotton socks and shame on you taking another windies work of him for less than half what he was charging. I don't know how you can sleep at night /emoticons/biggrin.png

TolishAPurd;

It occurred to me today that he may have been doing the frames, in which case I would have probably quoted about £15, nothing was said so I'll have to wait and see. I don't do frames unless asked, and we're talking trad here not wfp.

Smurf;

I have no qualms about taking someone else's work, providing it is fair competition, and anyway it's up to the customer. Two customers did it to me not long ago, sacked me because I was putting them up 50p on £7:50 for 13 windows, "to get someone cheaper",.

I know its difficult and awkward but to be honest Rugby, I might have been tempted to retract that quote or at least revise it upwards somewhat. If that ever happens to me then I will tell them that its not the etiquette to undercut fellow windowcleaners. Such a difference between the two prices. Did she let on that she already had a window cleaner or had she already got rid?

The lady is next door to where I work, and came round to ask me to clean her windows, as they had finished their window cleaner. I didn't know what he had been charging, so was not aware of undercutting, which I wouldn't do anyway; I always charge my price irrelevant of other people.

Fair play Rugby.....did she say why she had finished the windy. I wonder If she felt she was being overcharged or was he just doing a rubbish job.....or both

I don't really want to answer that as the windy in question may be on this forum, what I will say is that she did not want him doing them anymore.
