Well it was only a matter of time till I went waterfed. I now have a gardiner clx 22 and backpack system. I certainly didn't believe how much water I'd be going through. I resulted in asking garages for some of there barrels as a quick solution.

Currently working out of my car hence why I don't have a van system. 

I have a little questions for the everyday waterfed guy.

1. I'm currently cleaning the frames of all windows and then going round the house and then going back to the first window to clean the glass & rinse. Would this only matter for first cleans or is there faster methods? 

2. Is there any temporary solutions in saving water? I want a univalue but strict for cash.

3. I'v got a trolley after my first day of lifting the backpack around and now i'v got an issue of the trolley going over the cord and hanging all over the place. Anyone got any solutions to this? Perhaps a reel or some kind.

4. Typically how many 25ltr barrels should do 10-15 houses?

Truly loving the system and it's a real time saver. If i had more barrels I'd be full waterfed pole right now. Currently tradding bottoms for a few more days until more barrels arrive in the post.

it sounds like your doing a first clean on every clean.

you should be able to do them as one.

is a good start for you to see how its done mate. there is loads of vids on YouTube but be careful as there is a lot of bad advice as well.

I'm not sure how much water is typically used for each house because I use 650ltr tank but I reckon around 20-25 ltrs for a 3 bed semi is not far off, probably someone else can tell you more

a van mount is what you want then life gets so much easier for you..

1 i always do the frames but you will find you do them while doing the glass

2 get an inline tap like the gardiners flowvalve (cheap ones on ebay) and put it in the hose 6 foot from the pole when fully extended and chuck the tap part of the hose over your shoulder while working so your hand is always close to the tap and turn off between windows

3 i coil my hose round my arm like wrapping up an extension lead etc if you get what i mean and then just hang it on the trolley

4 1st cleans not included i do on average 2 houses per 25l minimum but that is with experience and my own technique.. i always aim to earn minimum of £1 per litre

You will use loads at first but will soon start saving water

It depends on your work.. a van mount slows me down where i work which is why i built one then after 6 months went back to a trolley

all my work is reached by my 100m hose reel so I find it much easier with a van mount and its all ill ever need, horses for course I suppose Dave.

I'm in north wales and can usually park either on or outside every property.

Thanks everyone.

Because I'm converting everyone from trad to waterfed. So basically every clean will be a first clean wfp. So should I continue cleaning the frames of the full house first. Then go back to the first window at the top and then clean the glass and rinse.

Then when it comes back to the second clean I'll do what Darren showed me in his video.

Might be silly questions but I want to get this right first time.

Here's the technique I use on first cleans which seems to reduce water use:

Water on: mist the frames and windows

Water off: scrub

Repeat as many times as needed

You're using the CHAT Cleaning Pie here:, but without the heat

Water on: wash going along the frames and doing Ws on the glass

Water on: rinse

Cleaning Pie: CHAT

C = chemicals (in our case pure water)

H = heat (some people use hot water)

A = agitation (scrubbing with the brush)

T = dwell time (giving the water time to soak into the dirt and soften/loosen it)

It's called a pie because you can vary the size of the slices. In this technique, you're increasing the T = dwell time of the water and increasing the A = agitation. So you can use less of the C = pure water.

If there's a job with black or green algae on the frames, I'll always give them a quick going over first and then return to them once the water has had time to soak in. The stuff just washes clean away then.

I would suggest too much dirt in the top frame works and vents running down after.  That's why a first clean needs to be pretty much sterile then you've laid the ground works for easy maintenance.

What would you guys do if you come across windows open but the customers not in?

I'd normally try push the window shut with the brush but if not then just clean the glass only. 

Would any of you just leave it?

Just don't clean above the window, the frame. You can still clean the frame around the glass if you're careful

I don't have a uni valve or enough experience to not mess it up. I'll just clean the glass and certain parts of the frames.

Gazz you have to be ocd on first cleans. Do all frames first then back to first window to do the glass.

On a first clean I give the top of the frame a good rinse then scrub and rinse again. Then rest of frame and give sill a good going over. Then do the same on all the other frames the back to first window and glass.
