Well, all I can say is that I must have the dirtiest window frames around, because a quick wipe round will just smear them up. Incidentally, I've been window cleaning for many years, and I've NEVER been asked to do the frames on a regular basis, and I have one which I inherited with a round I bought.

if youve done a decent first clean, the rest of the cleans are only maintenance, a couple of wipes is normally more than enough

Window cleaners that miss out windows after quoting a whole house need their f*cking nuts chopping off, the ba$tard teeth kicking out and a letter of the most agitated type being written home to their mothers!

To address you issues Lew, as for upper sills it is always worth getting out a ladder if you think it's needed on a first clean just to be sure the sills are minty, after that (and with experience) you will know when the sills are done right with a WFP.

For those worried about the cost of purifying water well they need to give up and go work at McDonalds or some other fine dining establishment, if you're not willing to pay for your tools and equipment to be top notch then don't bother playing.

The ones that cry about costs are the low-ballers, the ones doing 4 bed detached houses for £6 to get the job as they can wizz round it in 5 mins, miss half the windows and still swear on their mothers to the customer that all the windows were done.

As with all business costs, it is not you but the customer that pays, if you were £8 on a traditional job then you switch to WFP it need to coincide with a price rise to £8.50.

Customers don't mind an odd 50p here or there once every year or two as long as they are getting a quality service.

I get infuriated at window cleaners that short cut or like to see 'what they can get away with' as they give all of us a bad rep and are truly just lazy ba$tards.

I have some houses with tricky windows that even with WFP I cant do safely and I have told the customers this as opposed to telling them 'yeah, no probs' and then let them down.

I buy my water and a 25l drum costs me a quidThat is more expensive than making it myself

I can do 3 houses with 2 drums so if i can't swallow a cost of 60ish pence to clean a house safely i might as well give up

All quotes i do now are a quid more than they would have been before and that covers the cost of doing a good job

Didnt realise you could buy purified water, this is a hurdle ill be facing, dont have access to water at the mo, sounds silly, but not the amount i need for work. Is there a place to try so i can fill backpack etc

No. I don't detail either. For me washing round the frames is extra, it's not cleaning the windows.

This is shocking behaviour! You don't even detail? That's crazy. The frame is part of the window. Imagine ordering some double glazing or new windows for your new extension and they turn up with just some sheets of glass!

Personally I think frames and sills are standard as they are part of the window, instead of us advertising that, you should have to advertise if you don't do them, as you do glass only!

I never worry about top sills wfp, as i know from doing the downstairs ones a good scrub and its clean so just do the same upstairs.

I worried about top frames at first until i realised once they were scrubbed and rinsed then scrubbed again while doing the glass there would be no spotting. .sod this waiting for the frame to dry then going back lark..

i got a lovely old lady whose windows I clean that came to me because she caught out her window cleaner once when she happened to be in (she's usually out) she had suspected for a while that he wasn't actually cleaning her windows and on this occasion she witnessed him pull up and put a card through her door. Then sure enough later that eve he turns up for payment. Shocking behaviour

You can of course have your own opinion as to whether you want to clean frames and sills or not as part of your service. As long a the customers are told this its their choice who they use.

I didn't know this even happened until recently a guy answered the door who said his windie had just been, but his frames were dark green, I actually laughed and in shock and never one to take somebody elses work I walked away laughing, but really for the customers sake I should of told him I would do his frames and his windows would look miles better, then my bro keeps telling me he sees windies doing glass only with wfp and now this thread. I just though frames and sills were a given and I would sack the guy if he just did part of my windows I was paying him to clean. But each to their own I guess, clearly its more common than I thought. Good for me though as customers will realise they can get a more complete service for their money with us who do frames too.

I think you have got it wrong. None of my customers have green frames, I use a Wagulator, so the scrubber goes onto the frame about 10mm. the solution I use means that the water does not run. So I have cleaned the immediate frame with no particular effort. If I took a new customer on and the frames were bad then, according to how bad, I would clean them and may or may not charge them. I always do the sills. In the town where I live and work I know of 6 window cleaners (trad) who do not do the frames. I take great pride in my work, and I have a good reputation. I have one customer that I inherited that has the frames washed every time, and as I said before I've never been asked to do it on a regular basis. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against washing the frames, if you want to do it that's fine, I don't feel the need is there.
