Training Days For Solar Panel Cleaning

Every time I ask a customer about cleaning their solar panels they tell me there is no need because it is self cleaning glass, yes I know that self cleaning glass needs cleaning, but this is what the suppliers are telling them. Also there are 2 large companies close to me that say the same, they don't need cleaning, where can I find the information that gives a definitive answer to the need for solar panel cleaning ?

Hi Andy. Thanks for your input. Self cleaning glass does exist but as we know, it does not work efficiently enough for solar panels. If you can see a film of dirt on the panel, the fact that you can see it shows that some light, even a small amount, is being reflected back to your eye instead of going into the panel. Panels with a film of dust have already begun to lose efficiency. Science tells us that is the case whether installers like it or not.

We are the sole approved solar panel cleaner for a large installation company. They were fitting solar panels for years, long before the recent boom time. I approached them with what I thought was unique proposition via email. Within 10 minutes, their MD rang me back to discuss it more. Their board of directors agreed to meet with me the following day. This is no small time operation. I couldn't believe my luck! They were selling and installing solar panels under the guise of them being 'self-cleaning'. After a period of time, the complaints started rolling in from unhappy customers who could see from the ground their panels were dirty. We struck a deal and now they are going back through their database of thousands of customers to offer solar panel cleaning. We are doing every job they get.

This is an abbreviated version of my personal story. You can find more official info for why solar panels need cleaning here: http://www.solar-panel-cleaners.com/why-clean-solar-panels.php

I look forward to hearing your and anyone elses thoughts.

I don't think it's a bad idea Steve, I think it's all about location like impact 43 travel to different locations around England, would this be something you would be doing with the rite interest, it is something I would consider doing £90/£150 for years of knowledge CHEAP AS CHIPS.

I would do it even if you didnt get backing from city and guilds. Great idea
Thanks Paul. Useful input. I have been on training days by companies with no 'official' qualification at the end, but what I have come away with is notes galore and some very useful contacts who I use on at least a weekly basis.

I have, through 1 training day, added a service I can offer to current and new customers which brings me in K's in revenue each year. That day cost me £90.00 plus one nights accommodation. From that initial investment, I didn't get an 'official' qualification, I got 2 decades of someone else's experience that will make me money for the rest of my working career.

Let the cat out of the bag on that one then steve,... I now know which business model you will be hoping to adopt for your training courses. /emoticons/wink.png

Regarding Dragons Den I'm sure one of those numpties would say something like "Anyone with an ounce of brain could do the same thing so not exactly a unique concept worth investing in. So for that reason I'm out" Good luck!

Not sure exactly but would be at somewhere like the holiday inn, include teas and coffees and if I can arrange it for a good enough price, lunch too. Total for the day about £90.00.

£90.00 represents great value if you learn how to land a six-monthly commercial contracts through a well designed website and with the correct kit, do it in record time!!!
Theres no correct kit for cleaning them though. WFP? Having a well designed website wont get you 6 monthly commercials either. I cant see how it would? Myabe if it was well place is search engines yes apart from that.... Good luck with it though

There are kits avalible on the net .

Sorry Steve I can't get my head around why someone would want to fork out £90 to go on a training course even just to learn the basics on the marketing side of things. Even after being awarded a so say "accredited solar panel cleaner" without even cleaning one solar panel on a training course would be a farce and mislead potential customers in believing whoever comes out will be competent to do the job. Most domestic sp arrays I've seen would be very difficult if not impossible to clean from the ground without needing access equipment too....
