Transit or vivaro/traffic??

hi guys time to buy a new van but torn between a ford transit or a vivario/traffic. ive had 1 traffic and 1 vivaro but had ignition,battery,alternator n lots of problems so im tempted to go for a transit but ive had mixed opinions on what is the best. any info be appreciated im looking at spending 2500-3k so be around the 06 mark I think

I've worked from primastar and vivaro and the traffic and there all fantastic to work out off but if the choice was mine id feel I'm missing out if I didn't get a transit , running costs are about the same but I think the transit is a bit better to work from and better desighned

When I was looking for another used van most transits I looked at were scabby rust buckets.

Transits rust, but vivaros, traffics ect can have huge repair bills.

Google watchdog for vivaros and you will see the major problem they have with injectors seizing in the head which in really bad cases can lead to needing a new engine

back when i was a mechanic a good way to get those seized injectors out was to weld a slide hammer directly to the injector itself. this wasnt in the rule book but it worked!

I would go for a Transit. Transits are cheap on parts. Rust can be a problem but no matter what you buy it won't be perfect when buying a used van.

There are lots of good nick transits around as they are loads of good traffics , I've done 100's of thousands of miles in these vans with no problems

The trouble with the vivaros is the injectors end up sitting in water because of a design fault on a weather strip and the completely seize in the head. In some cases not even a hydraulic press can get them out and the snap off inside the head

ive just got a vivaro it has a plastic cover over the engine as its fairly new think they have put it on to stop the water from siting on the enging mine has the 2.0cdti engine 39k on the clock as long as it has full service history ur ok my friend has a 2.0cdti an he has had it since 30k an it now has 120k on the clock he hasent lifted a spanner to it only reguler servicing its bin spot on the 1.9cdti has a week gear box an is a different engine witch seems to b more problamatic alltho the taxi drivers faver the vectra's now as there so relible !! i think as long as there looked after ur ok if the injectores do go an get stuck u can get them romeved with a jidrolik press

I have a vivaro, good engine but the gearboxes r rubbish, and now the cold weather is here it's hard getting into 1st and reverse in the morning until it gets warm.

I was advised to get a tranny van by someone who knows his stuff, i went for the vivaro cos it looks better, and as everyone knows ford's r just rust buckets.

But bodyrot can be an easy (but boring) diy repair, a knackered gearbox is not.

Oh yea, and mine has some annoying electrical demons, the side and back door decides to stop unlocking with key fob at random times, so getting in the back is a pain.

Trannys r cheap to repair and have simple reliable engines.

Another option, citroen make reliable engines and gearboxes

New customs won't rust not like the older ones, I had to have my engine taken out of my vivaro and taken away to a specialist company that deals with injectors ! The garage that said the injector could snap and it DID! One injector cost me £1,200 then the next 3 injectors went couple weeks after that! Clutch cable went , steering pump went , anti roll bar linkages went twice, new gearbox ! **** vans hate them !! I looked after mine and all this still happened. My bro in law bought a traffic last year brand new, he's done around 25,000 miles on the clock and he's had a new gear box and a clutch already!!!
