I've used Pages for all invoices for a few years now. so I can keep a running copy of all invoices each month I open the previous months invoice, hit 'duplicate', close the original and on the duplicate change the details that need to be changed then save it under a new name e.g. Smith1509 (Smith 2015 September). Then print and post, or 'export as .pdf'and email to client.

I just click into the invoice, change the date/invoice number and then send off via pdf...

I sometimes duplicate them if I'm making another entirely new invoice, saves having to start from scratch!

Learn from one who has been there, don't leave registering with HMRC a moment longer than you can. With them you are guilty and have to prove your innocence, and how do you prove you have NOT earned it.

Just to help clarify you do not need to register for VAT until you have a turnover of £82'000 in any twelve month period.

You can register for VAT prior to this threshold but that is entirely voluntary and almost pointless as you will be paying an additional 20% in tax for no reason.

As for do you charge the customer VAT the answer is no, not until you are VAT registered and at that point you will need to advise the clients that the price is £8 + VAT and provide them with a receipt showing the VAT (required by law once you are VAT registered)

As you state you have just a handful of customers I suggest you focus on building your customer base first and then once you have a substantial client base and you know your business is secure then you can work on building further toward the £82'000 VAT threshold.

Because I keep copies of all invoices online. If you just edit the original invoice then all you will have is the latest edit of that invoice and a historical paper trail (demanded by our IRD (Tax) if ever you are audited) would not be available.

However it seems to me that the OP is not particularly understanding of the entire VAT system so possibly your statement might not have been as clear to he as to you and I..

Moving forward Paul, lower concourse opens to the public on the 20th at 7am so all crews will move to night shift as of this Thursday for the last few weeks to complete upper concourse.

My sympathies to the standard cleaners as they move from 7pm to 7am, soul destroying. My crew only do 8 hour shifts so will be 7pm till 3 am so home to bed before suns up!
