Univalve issue?

I have a univalve and to begin with when the tap was off the water stopped entirely but just lately a tug on the hose will sometimes only reduce the water flow or not turn it off at all. Or at other times the water stops going to the brush and runs back out of the bottom of the pole! I've checked the connections and seems tight enough at the joins.

Have I just not noticed before and is this normal behaviour?

Sounds like its jamming Contact them and I'm sure URL get a freebie lol
Bloody should if it is faulty, only had it 3 weeks!

I've just replaced the O clips in all three places and trimmed the hose so it's super snug. I'll try it again tomorrow before I ask /emoticons/smile.png

I had the same problem. Steve said it may of been dirt getting stuck in there.

Just message him on here mate and he will more than likely send you a replacement.

When mine done this it would work again for a few houses then go again.

BTW Arent you experiencing problems with that yellow gardiner hose connected to the univalve?

Mine got totally elastic and I had little contact when temperatures inclined. Changed it to a stiffer blue transparent one , 1 tug , and go ! Almost every time .

I'm just asking. If there is dirt getting stuck in there, why should Steve have to replace the Univalve? Surely if the issue is dirt then that's an operator issue which wouldn't be covered under warranty.

I've got the reinforced pole hose in mine. And I only use cold DI water with it so can't comment on it becoming stretched with warmer water. Would imagine that is a pain in the ass though.

Should dirt have got in there in the first place? Not sure how it would have tbh. Surely the pure water is filtered before it enters the hose so shouldn't have any debris to pass through the valve anyway. Only thing I could think is if your brush head passes back some small particles. I did have to clear one of my pole tubes the other day as a tiny piece of something had got into the jet opening and wedged. Can't see it running back 15" or so to get inside the valve though???

I blasted through my pumps maximum pressure today and swapped out the o clips and didn't get any back washing down the hose. 9/10 times the valve was shutting on and off with one pull so hopefully it's sorted for the time being :sweating:

It is ! Im a cold water wfp myself . My problems occured with the Yellow " all season hose " at +22 degrees it became a rubberband ..

Good point. I never thought of that to be fair. Perhaps it was an issue with the valve itself. I didn't question it as he sent me a new one.

But like has been said how would dirt get into it ?

When I first had the valve I used the all seasons hose. Bought some of the blue pole hose off exceed and the difference is very noticeable. You barely have to tug with the blue stuff to operate where as the all season hose you can feel the stretch.

Another thing to watch is how you connect the hose to the moving part of the valve. When pushing the hose on, make sure that the valve is closed and that there is still 1 or 2mm of clearance before clamping it on.

Don't know if that's clear but when the valve is shut off, the hose attached to the bottom of the valve should not touch the valve body. If it does this can stop it closing properly. I made this mistake when connecting my first one.

Will have a look tomorrow. Cheers

I occasionally get a little leakage of water from the bottom of my pole that I thought was from the univalve, but when I removed it to check it I couldn't replicate it. I think it was coming from the hose connection on the tubeless fitting. I use rectus 21 connectors here and I've often known the hose to leak where it's clamped on to the barb.

I use a pump filter , but as rainwater harvester its hard to do without . But i Would use it anyway . Cost about nothing and is easy to clean ,and saves your pump from damage . /emoticons/smile.png

My first trolley didn't come with a filter so I worked without one for a couple of years and had no problems. Then I fitted one and it caused more problems than it was worth. It made clearing airlocks annoying due to air that got trapped in it. I also had to keep taking it off and cleaning it as it would turn green with algae. I got so fed up with it, I took it off again. I didn't like the big one that PF supplied with their later trolleys as it left too much water in the barrel.

In order to help prevent problems I made a fitting to reduce the suction at the end of the hose that picks up the water from the barrels. This leaves any grit that could cause problems in the barrel. I then just flush the barrels out every so often.
