I have just bought a 23 plate transit custom pre registered with only 600 miles on the clock I haggled with the dealer and the final price they made less than £800 on it and they had it in stock for just under a year .
I bought a 23 plate Peugeot Partner in April, had 89 miles on the clock and I'm 1st registered keeper. I asked them to chuck a couple of mats in for free and the rep said they'd lose money if he did 🤣🤣

We are currently looking at VW Transporter campervans the prices vary quite a bit up ad down the country but nothing is really shifting but they don't this time of year but even private sellers trying to max out on price aren't managing to sell their vans,

We are going to keep an eye on things and hold off for now, I'd soon hold off to get exactly what we want than just buying a van and needing to change again in a few years time.
My transporter is just a day van. Bought it back in May, at the time I called up and told them all the extras I wanted. The fella cut me off and said basically you can have what we have in stock. No new orders are going on the production line because they’re all going to be made by Ford from later this year. I had 2 garages trying to sell me 2 different vans. One had DSG, the other didn’t. I went for the manual and the parting words from the chap trying to sell the DSG were to tell me I would regret it every time I was in traffic.

Fast forward to August and I’m p1ssed every time I’m in traffic. Called to upgrade to a 4 motion with DSG. Even accepting a colour I didn’t want. They wanted me to take a loss of 10k so I figured I’d make the first van a window cleaning van. No one would fit a system to it. They wouldn’t give me a couple of weeks grace to sell the van elsewhere so I pulled out.

Since then I have sound proofed, insulated it. Had a couple of grands worth of wheels and tyres and had the inside carpeted. Making the most of it. It’s a nice van and I don’t know why I let the DSG thing get under my skin so much.

Be careful waiting on a transporter. Now they’re going to be made by ford they will likely start going up in value. There are some bargains to be had with pre registered ones at the moment where they want to clear stock. It’s also the last chance to treat yourself to a new one made by VW

Like you I was trying to get a 4 motion DSG 200 bhp but the best price I could get was crazy then the conversion to a camper put it at 120k , so bought a transit custom lwb high roof even with the conversion it will be just over half the price of the Vw but unfortunately not awd . Have to say ime not a ford man at all but it drives better than the Vw and the plastic in it is far better quality can’t believe ime saying it but it’s true , have a few friends that have had both and they have had a lot of issues with the Vw , Vw have always had a cult following and this has kept prices very high they are a nice van don’t get me wrong but grossly overpriced, and you pay for the name . The new transporter from what I can gather is a joint venture between Vw and ford the wet belt is a mental concept but maybe a joint venture between the two companies may produce a better vehicle, time will tell .

Now I've heard it all! VW must be in some sort of 'trouble' to do this. Rebadging is common place in the industry, but with the VW Transporter, wow.

We aren't going for a new one, it will be a few years old, we might change or minds again yet,

The trouble with the Ford's despite their cheaper prices its possible they have most likely been thrashed and abused and sold at Auction and then converted.

We aren't clued up about motors so it's a bit of a minefield for us, we had swayed more towards the vw because they are galvanised and have a 3 layer paint system so if we are keeping it for 15 years or so then we want it to last.

I don’t think your average van regardless of make will have been treated to badly provided it’s not been used as a hire van I would try and get a one owner full main dealer history and you should be ok especially if you can get a decent warranty with it .

That's our plan, we had seen some decent deals offered by a firm down Bradford customs etc but they are turning them around at a decent rate selling 3-4-year-old vans that have been converted to campervans by them but when you look at the Google reviews of some of these sellers they aren't all good.

So we have become cautious about these types of vans as some of them seem too good to be true for the price.

Oh yes I totally agree there are a lot of bad convertors some are a right bodge job ime getting knights custom in Lincolnshire to do mine as I like there way of doing things typical it’s the opposite end of the country to ware I am

It’s mental isn’t it! They’re making massive redundancies at VW. The new one is going to be made in Turkey. They say it’s because of the manufacturing cost. The prices of the vans kept rising. In all honesty I think they’ve made a massive mistake. People keep paying the prices, if they slimmed down the range. Take away the T28 and the T30 model and just do the T32, all of a sudden the manufacturing cost is well down without involving ford 🤷🏼‍♂️

Treat yourself! You deserve it 😂😂😂

I wasn’t too fussed on the 200bhp, I was happy with the 150. Then again I was never interested in the campervan conversion. I’ve never understood it to be honest. People get the Caravelle and spend a fortune, I think I’d either convert a standard transporter (at a fraction of the cost) or more likely buy an actual camper that would be more comfortable to sleep in.

Completely agree on it being overpriced. Since I’ve had it lowered it drives like a golf to me. Loving it. I think it would benefit from an anti roll bar upgrade also but honestly well happy with it a little lower.

It wasn't the conversions, they were selling motors with faults, I have read of others doing dodgy Mot's etc, this has been the case when I have looked into places up and down the country

There is a company around 16 miles from us that converts vans and has very good reputation we could buy a one converted without a pop top which would give is more options then pay them to fit a pop top

Ford vans are made in Turkey. I wonder what this means for the VW and Mercedes Sprinter van alliance?
Years back the Sharron was also a VW and Ford mix. Now that the PSA/Ford relationship has soured with PSA's purchase of GM 's European stake, there will undoubtedly be other relationships forming. I just can't believe the Transporter is joining that club.

I believe the new Transit Connect is based on the VW Caddy! So looks like VW make the small Ford/VW vans and Ford make the middle sized ones!

Vw and Mercedes stopped working together on the sprinter / crafter in 2016 they are now totally separate with the Vw and man versions made in a Vw factory in Poland

Anyone using the newer shaped vauxhall combo as my old van is getting near the end of its life, was considering a transit connect but many have mentioned the wet belt problems that as put my off.
900kg to 1000kg is perfect for my needs as only use 350l maximum nowadays as I have cut back my workload.
We used one for the last 4years with a 500ltr pure freedom system.

Perfect for one man operation
