Wheelie bin cleaning

WCF

Help Support WCF:

It can't reuse the water. I offer bin cleaning as an add on service for my customers. The bins are vile, in summer they have maggots. Keeping the waste water would be a hazard to human health. You just get permission from the local authority to put the water straight down the drain. I imagine a system that could purify that would be worth tens of thousands and in no way cost effective.

Thanks for your replies it’s much appreciated! I may have worded the question wrong I meant how do they reuse the water to clean the bins with through out the day so they don’t have to keep emptying/filling the tank then they empty the tank only once at the end of the day. I know this is possible because lots of other wheelie bin cleaning business do it. The reason I ask is I’m thinking on starting a wheelie bin cleaning business. Below is a picture I found of a system that reuses water and would like to know how it works in more detail

Not sure if there is any wheelie bin lads on here but i could be wrong, only time will tell. I assume the system diagram posted above will be a trailer type system as their is a lad i see around whilst out working but he has had his years and i also assume they must really expensive to buy.

The diagram looks like it has a separate waste and water compartments. As you empty the fresh water you will undoubtably get a lot of run off either way. Clever idea to have a filter and remove the waste water but completely unnecessary. Just book the appointment for a week when recycling has been collected and ask the customer to ensure they only puts full bags in the waste bin.

I'm pretty sure you would also need a waste carriers licence... waste of time considering you can just drop the waste straight in the drain, filter out any odd bits of rubbish which you bag up and leave for the customer. Genuinely can't see the benefit of a system like that. Could be wrong.

I don't know this for sure as never used one but it looks like the same principle as an industrial size dish washer that re-uses water for the initial rinse stage. If it is then the filters would just be a metal mesh type filter. First stage having 1mm holes for the water, 2nd stage 1/2mm holes (I don't know exact size) then as the diagram says, a final filter to protect the pump. The water doesn't need to be "clean" as you are just rinsing it. Then after rinse, spray it with a rose smelling disinfectant. First filter would need to be cleaned after each job then second each day probably.
As I said, never done it but it looks like the same principle from the dish washer when I was a kitchen porter.

I had a quick good, they sell some top notch machines. All trailers, you lift the bins on, stand on a platform and rinse them with a petrol jet wash. The water runs off and i assume is collected as per your diagram above. If its your only business I can see the value in it, if its an add on service for window cleaning I would be skeptical as to wether or not you would make your 10k back.

The guy around here empties the bins into a supermarket wire basket and lets the water run into the drain. I thought it was a nice trick with the free basket.

I thought it was illegal to let waste water down a drain on the side of the road
Wouldn't call it waste water because I weekly clean the bins at my place and the first clean is with the PW and they come up spotless. The remainder of the cleans is just maintenance and I use a hose for that and then quick spray with water down hypo and fragrance and job done. You would need to define waste water. As a retired fireman we got told if you dilute anything  2000 times with water then its neutralised. So all you are doing is putting water down the street drains. They all do it up here with never an issue. fwiw

Thanks Scottish I have started a wheelie clean business my maintenance bins after the first initial clean are pretty clean so I agree with u on just hose water going down the drain how ever some new clients bin are rather bad and that waste is what bothers me at the moment I have converted a rectangular bucket with a sieve that sieves the muck and then I just pour the water down my clients waste drain was thinking of doing some sort of a drain off my van bumber into a under van water tank but seems not really necessary
