Nice thanks. I also like the idea of down that route. Not to say others are not professional but to customers it is often seen as oh its just a window cleaner etc. I like the idea of pushing it more professionaly, and hopefuly changing the view of some customers and others about window cleaners. The problem I guess is those damn numptys that go around cleaning houses for £3.

Surely a plastic a4 wallet looks a bit on the naff side?

I think it's better to at least have a branded custom designed one...

That way people would respect it more and see the professionalism of it all..

Hand-made shows care and attention even if it's not as polished, suited to the local down to earth image IMO

Yes very good idea damo,

I took advice off my management team on here and started delivering leaflets with the info on when I started charging double for first cleans..

my first cleans sheet explains why they are expected to pay double as custies can be a bit er...slow at times...

of course divvy here.....

forgot to put his moby number on his next day leave money out text me address windowcleaning note..

put his bank details the wrong way round on his pay online notes...thankfully realised within ten notes..and hopefully no one used that number as of course...that would be a nice surprise for somebody else...finding random money paid in..

lucky for me the bank details I got wrong way around were on the back in small print....

and thanks bill whoever you are...I SAID.if you payonline use your address as reference...

I think I know who it was...

still have to put my moby number manually on my your windows were cleaned today notes...

but it does have my web address..

as for upselling..

I said to one very small house all done by text..

I also clean gutters....at a pound a metre..

your front is 5 metres..example..

well it was just the gutter the fascia was painted...and you could see next doors had been done and this one looked lousy..

got text back how much do I owe you then?

er quick text back I DONT do work without your permission first...

what I would have liked to have put is....

use your feckin eyes...there still black:rolleyes:

I gave up at upselling..however...some six months later..

oh do you clean gutters then....?

yeh not so sure about the pound a metre anymore either it was bloomin hard work..

but it was during one of our heavy showers where I couldnt even get to my car 10 metres away..

and I left the garage as let her clean them..I er..didnt see that..

paid straight away she was well chuffed...

but it can be hard work this upselling..

Do you have anything in them for the customer about you cleaning in the rain an that its fine and there windows will still be clean. I was thinking when i ever get a chance to start again to have something somewhere that says something like.

Our bills don’t stop in winter so neither does our service. As we use the latest technology in pure water fed pole systems it allows us to clean your windows even if it is raining, ensuring you windows and property are looking their best all year round.

Just thinking about it as when i was cleaning always had funny looks or comments from custies when cleaning in the rain.

The pack contains.

Who we are.

How we clean

Why we clean using method

Rain guarantee

Special offers.

Direct number for your cleaner

Office numbers (home landlines /emoticons/wink.png )

Couple of other bits in there as well. They are more specific to the type of customer.

Hi cheap.

We have been WFP for around 6 years now I believe.

Plastics are cleaned using chemicals and water fed pole.

Gutters are cleaned with a gutter vac of ladders

I am having my own TFR made as I am fed up with certain aspects of TFR.

I gave samples to Ian/graham and Andy. All three bottles have holes in now haha. It melted em. Yay.

I have a print out @Gav off here somewhere which explains pure, and could add a line about rain if it's not there. I haven't used it yet though, was going to shorten it to a few lines and 'I called today and cleaned' line

I always seem to chat a lot with the customer anyway so if it's raining I just say I'll carry on and each one so far has been home to pay me but got one this week I have to text before to leave the money.

Only passing interest I've had is when gutter vacing, I nearly always get someone wants to know what I'm up to then they claim to be interested and take a card (then never call!). They seem to ask just as I've got the pole up into the gutter, vac on,

I personally couldn't give someone an a4 plastic wallet thing from staples... But I understand yoyr thinking,

My brand is all together different though, and I would opt for a folder that has the brand name and colours on it... Doesn't need to be posh...

I would just make sure it matches my business cards and existing marketing bits, that's all

It may also be that my area is snobby, so I just couldn't bring myself to hand out a plastic thing, bit I can see how it fits most

That's the best part about running your own business.

You do what works for you and what pays the bills.

As long as you are happy then what other people say or do is irrelevant.

Opinions are just that. Opinions.

I think the folder idea is great damo, especially that it's tailored to the house/client type. A folder is only a storage thing and they give it back. Sure Jake it would look better to have a branded folder to give away but to be honest any folder is a step up from 95% of the window cleaners out there akready, us folder prices really are crazy, plus then add in different flyers and bits and bobs and it'll be a big initial outlay. If you find any at a decent price though please let us all know /emoticons/biggrin.png Alternatively Jake you could just stick a branded sticker on a staples folder

Ha ha,

Nah that would look even tackier!

True, but then... Forums are all about opinions /emoticons/smile.png

We all give our opinions on every thread we post in.

Sometimes it offends, sometimes it helps, sometimes it differs.

Personally I think it's a great idea, but a more upmarket folder would be better - in my opinion lol!

But to have your brands colours is important I think, and perhaps a logo on it, mind you, I didn't know the a4 folder was handed back!?! Or is that just your opinion @MrBump

I wouldn't ask for it back that's for sure! Too embarrassing...

'Yeah have a read, all the info is in there, ....ohh by the way.... Can I... Have the folder back now please?'

I have an information letter I give out that tells them about services, what we do, why we do it the way we do it etc, also have invoices with all my services on them as tick boxes, then also have vouchers I give out randomly that can also have a quote written on them, the 20% off only lasts 14 days from time of voucher though so I usually stick them out when a quiet spell is ahead.

Have been toying with a pack like this for awhile now, I would likely make them myself as well like @Damo has, I was thinking of a white card folder, I am sure you can buy them in bulk somewhere though not looked yet.

They cost £1 for 4 so no lol. I don't ask for them back.

The idea is speed. Not all of my canvassed customer are in. That folder can be folded and put through a letter box.

Of course if I was working in a high class area I MAY do something different.

A brand is built on what you want it to be.

Marks & Soencer vs Lidl. Marks and spencer is the better brand in people's eyes. Higher quality and more expensive.

Yet Lidl's profit is massive compared to marks and spencer.

I go to work to enjoy it and make a decent profit. How the customer sees me in their eyes is irrelevant.

I would love a professional welcome pack made of course. I just feel for the route I wanted to go it wasn't needed.

Yes damo and in fairness, it's not even a needed thing anyway, a leaflet would be sufficient...

If I were to do it, it'd be more for the enjoyment and satisfaction than profit, because I don think it would generate any more profit than what a business card already does...

Plus 90% of customers couldn't care less - all they want is a window cleaner...
