the beauty of doin the paid ads on FB is you can set the target area , a town alone, town +25 miles , +100 etc . Also you can set the age of who sees it, no point targetting kids of 16 is it.you can also set the days you want your ad to run and/or the total spend . i find its worth setting the total spend because if you leave it to the default setting, your ad will run and run! for a month solid, christ knows how much thatd cost ! .

i personally set a spend limit of about £15 max spread over 3 days each time iv advertized , cheap if you think about it,as i dont want much new work, just a trickle of new blood needed now ,and as iv said got good results each time.
Has the paid advertising worked for you though? got work off it? I only wonder because I pretty much ignore the ads on facebook, wasn't sure if that was the same for everyone.

of course yes , or i wouldnt have done it over and over . id say each time i spent £15 say, i got about £60 average return in work. i chose the "clicks onto website" paid option each time , usually ran some kind of deal at that time [on my site]

cant remember the exact figures but i think for £15 you get about 100 clicks onto your website , thats folk who are intrested enough to look in, about half a dozen then followed thru and booked [on average]

its a learning process ,setting up an ad , dont rush or you will regret it.

go into the targetting options when setting up an ad, to narrow down the area/ narrow down the age group of who you want it seen by ,set how much you want to spend and how many days ad will run .

dont press GO until youv done all that , you want it to hit the right people in the town you work or else it will go nationwide and unless you work nationwide it will be a total wasted effort .

iv seen this happen ,when an ad has popped up on my facebook by a small town butcher from the other side of the country.

Facebook is definitely weapon of choice at the moment. I have 4 jobs booked in and a conny clean which I did today, All just by creating a page. Haven't advertised in the buy to sell yet but will get on that tomorrow. Do you link the post with your business user name? i'm having trouble with the facebook/username thing as I have tried the most obscure combinations of my name/business even combined with random numbers and it says there taken, strange.

I usually post with my name not the business name.

And how did you get customers without advertising? that's awesome!

They were friends of friends that must have seen the likes on the page and then sent me a message, sorry no special trick that i possess. There all a bit spaced but i'm not gonna complain. Took me 2.5 hours and 200 litres of water to clean this conny today lol god it felt good though being out there, at least i'm off too a start things were starting to look...well a bit Gollum like really.

Good job mate.

I compare it to pushing a big ball, its really hard to get it going, but once you do it slowly starts gaining momentum.

No doubt about it though it is a hard slog at the start, and you will have quiet times, I went two weeks with 2 new customers, then last week I got 12.

Keep plugging away and don't give up, you WILL get there.

yes, post under my name , with a link to business page. ie https://www.facebook.com/yadayadayadaandyourmumsacock

heres summat iv jus started doing, and wish id done it ages ago. comb thru the local buy and sell groups on FB , make a note of anyone who looks like they sell or buy decent stuff .add these people as friends. this will then give you a circle of local friends that have money . then when you post a link to your business page they will see it in their news feed, and being local, and a friend of sorts ,might take up on it

you have to add these people slowly, cos if FB think you are playing silly beggars they block you from adding people for a few days,or a month if you are a pest befriending folk you dont know in real life

one thing iv learnt ,if you do the paid ads with FB , you are allowed to be a pest with adding friends

I had a feeling facebook would be more lenient with you if you were paying them for ads. Thanks for confirming this I will be using the targeted ads when I go full time.

This is a really good thread lads, I've been following it from the start. I'll be setting up an accountin the new year.

and don't forget the little online ad boys, Gumtree,Friday ad, Freeindex . iv had a tiny but steady flow of work from each of these , iv only done the freebie ads that I have to update each week, [and they will ring you up from the head office trying to get you to upgrade,iv resisted each time]

lately iv been thinking of doing the paid upgrade,on gumtree ,just in the holiday period perhaps,a 2 week run surely wont cost much - see if it catches somebody

I've done this twice mate, and both times I've got even less then a normal ad. Its as if it makes you look too big so people skip over you.

This is my thinking with the flash flyers as well, my home made flyers are without a doubt outperforming my flashy glossy ones.

you may be able to improve the glossy fliers ,by adding a big "special offer" star sticker on the front

Already tried that, with different offers, they just don't work. My home printed ones with the tick, 4 customers off about 160 flyers.

im with you ,i too got great results with homemade fliers . so what will you do with the glosseys? how many have u left??

in the 4yrs iv been reading windie forums iv read of loads of glossy fail stories / glossy card is the worst
