rubbish weather Christmas rush!!

WCF

Help Support WCF:

I'm in the south east as well nick and just watched the weather. Think most of the rain tomorrow is to the north of London. Even so, if its raining I will keep going and tell customers that people are asking me to get round before Christmas, so I'm working whatever the weather. Besides, if your wfp, it wont make to much difference anyway
They say rain water is pure water so it makes no difference if you carry on working in the rain, i dont buy that because if it rains pure water the rain hits the house runs down the walls and then onto the windows by which time the water is contaminated so its not pure water on the windows and will leave spotting or am i wrong

Rain on clean windows doesn't affect it at all

The only time it is bad is when the rain is so hard it hits the floor and bounces all the dirt up on to the windows

Normal rainy day is no reason not to be working

I see rain as a help with the rinse lol

You are wrong. Next question.

So if the rain runs down the walls after you have cleaned the windows and runs onto the windows for the rest of the day they will be spotless is that what you are saying if so i wont be worried about working in the rain in the future

at least 2 to 3 weeks behind on residential work
I am failing to comprehend how anyone (barring injury or serious family emergency) can get two or three weeks behind. Perhaps you own a Playstation?

I am 1.5 days down at present and that has me sweating, however as I have my rounds tightly planned I will pull half of that back tomorrow and have to do Saturday morning to be back on track ready for Monday.

If you are that behind Nick perhaps it's time to expand your staff levels?

Green I've never been behind more than a couple a days except for hols and illness. Always keep them on their proper weeks. All runs like clockwork then

Im way behind, but I dont like to work in the rain, most of my custys must be messers, as I get from most of them, "what are you cleaning windows in this weather for", Im weeks behind with some work, got too much work, I suppose. Was working in the rain today, rain banging on the window, however was dry on the other side of house, grass is always greener on the other side. Maybe will be brave and bash on regardless next year.

Sounds like you need to get yourself sorted @windowsurfer. We are always picking up customers that are unhappy because their window cleaner is sporadic, unreliable, turns up when bothered. etc etc. It would take a serious act of god to see me get anymore than 2-3 days behind. This is the most I have been behind since February.

You work too hard to get customers so don't f**k them about or they will f**k you off mate!

It's easy to get behind. If you work on a 8 weekly cycle it's easy to have maybe 5-6-7 days rain which puts you behind. I also don't agree working in the rain. It's just my opinion but I don't agree cleaning windows in the rain. How if you clean wfp and it's raining & it hits the dirty wall or guttering above the window it must collect **** & run down the window. This is just my opinion. You also get holidays. A lot of us will have all of Xmas off so again that put you 2 weeks behind. I never worry about it. When a customer goes on holiday for 2 weeks & I don't get paid for 2 weeks it works the same.

This is what I don't get. Why assume stuff without even trying it?

Clean your own windows in the rain and watch the results.

Clean your windows without rinsing.

Clean your windows with just one brush stroke and no rinsing.

Clean your windows with varying pressure on the glass.

Only then you will then realise what you can and can't get away with and what will dry fine and won't dry fine.

Most Windows have a drip tray/rail/weather bar. It stops the rain from running down the wall and then on to the window.

I clean in the rain because it was the MAIN reason in swapping to water fed pole. So far this year I honestly think I haven't even lost five full days yet to bad weather..

What works for you won't work for me and vice a versa.

I know someone that used to have window cleaning as main income, he told me he lost a lot of customers through one particular bad winter, so it does worry me on how far behind I am, majority of them I think arent really bothered about their windows getting cleaned that regular, I get some customers say that I do a really good job. I am a natural worrier and get paranoid what people think.

So why is it when I clean top Windows & rinse it runs down on the bottom Windows. I'm not knocking anyone @Damo & I admire you all that clean in the rain I really do but I just don't for my own reasons.

To me it's the same as cleaning them and it raining after you have gone

It's been raining on and off for weeks yet my maintenance cleans are all pretty much spotless when i go back

A story I had was one day in May a customer rang me & said very abruptly told me I hadn't done her Windows for 10 weeks. She was on 8 weekly. I explained the **** weather we've had & I'll be round asap. Anyway she put phone down & I was actually due at hers 2 day's later. Anyway that day it was teeming down. I got in my car & drove to her house & put my belt on & rang her bell & stood there in the rain. She opened the door & said your not cleaning in this surely. I said you complained I was late & this is why. She apologised for being abrupt & has been good as gold since. I was soaked but needed to make my point.

Also when I clean in the summer & there on holiday I wait sometimes 2/3 weeks for my money. I don't moan coz I understand.

Do you mean the water from the top Windows. Hits the bottom sills and then splashes onto the glass ? If you do that will dry fine depending if you have cleaned the tops correctly.

A lot of the time I don't even rinse glass let alone lift the brush off the glass.

I don't want to work in the rain but I met a trad cleaner today. He posts on here. Today he couldn't work due to wind and rain. Absolute normal day for me. I am currently up on my weekly target and weather has been pants.

Ah I get what you mean. I think you need to actually go out in the rain and looks at how it behaves. I run at around 3.1 - 3.3 litres per min flow so an average big window would have 3L splashed over it. Hold a bowl out and catch 3 litres of water in it when it's raining. Then come back in two days and tell me how long it took;)

So you never have a holiday then??
Of course but I ensure I either have someone cover my round or in the least have the decency to tell customers that I will be away so they won't get cleaned next time see you in two months.

Also you mention not getting paid 2 or 3 times previously in this thread for a couple of weeks. That has nothing to do with it.

If the customers on holiday I would rather they are owing me money when they return than not at all. You must only clean in brill sunshine when the customer is stood at the door waving cash in your face @Posh.

Yesterday I go on a clean. Man of the house comes to the door tells me wife is on holiday with daughters in New York but she text him last night saying window cleaners due so make sure gates open.

Running a window cleaning round on time and with no fuss really is not that complicated yet some on here seem to find it more of a drama than an episode of Coronation St.
