No agree, that is why when I first clean I will make a effort to sill cloth the frames and sills down so they are in good order, not a major clean but good enough to look nice, so when come back they should always look ok, unless I am paid to clean the sills and frames. Would love to have a dog eard channel and rubber - thought someone might have a "i make em and sell them??? good side line for someone....

How times have changed as window cleaners just use to clean glass as that was all they got paid to do

A window consists of a piece (or more) of glass a window frame and a window sill

They are all a 100 times better than the old brass handles i grew up onUseless bit of black rubber wrapped round to keep hand warm and have to get screwdriver and pliers out to change rubber and soft horrible brass channels

That's a bit severe, I've been using brass and alloy channels and conventional handles for years, and I have no truck with them. I certainly don't use a screwdriver and pliers to change the rubber, you only need them if you're using quick release handles, and I don't use them. I have no use for quick release handles, and I never take the channels out.

I've been working without detailing (as I have said before), and have been doing fine. This new squeegee is only a dog-eared version with a cut away channel, and has been around for quite a while. I think the emphasis will be on the handle, as the angle of the channel to the glass is important - in the same way that Wagtail is. The rubbers are cut straight and then snipped off after insertion into the channel. If you reduce you water and increase you detergent, and have a wash pad on your squeegee similar to the Wagtail, you can wash the window and part of the frame with the minimum of liquid. Then, when you blade off (with a dog-eared channel), the water that you have left on the frame will not run and will dry up clean. So, no need to detail.

I dont have the equipment to make the dog ear channel. I pretty **** at all that stuff to. Is there no one whom make them on the side at all, willing to pay. I am shocked no one has started making a better channel and rubber set up yet. Being new to it all, its very suprising reading all about it. I find the unger channel and rubber I have it alwasy seems to leave a line along side a bit and difts up the rubber seal a lot, the rubber seems weak at end. What is a ball park figure for those new ones to hit streets then?

I would do them for you, and it is nice to hear someone who wants to improve his game. I've mentioned these things to window cleaners I know and they shrug their shoulders.... "have been doing it this way for years" they say. I worked in training a few years ago now, and it's amazing how blinkered people can be. where would we be without people trying new ways, that don't always work, but trying is the thing, Gawd knows I have!

A pair of pliers is all you need.

Eyeball 45° (don't need to be exact)

Cut end at 45°

Bend with pliers about 1cm from the end

Then slightly staighten it a bit so it looks like the bottom one on here

Lately i have been bending it from about 1.5cm and then straightening so it is more like a little step than a bend and works fine

I want to be a window cleaner as I like the life style it can provide and the money is good if you build a round well, but more important it suits me as a person and I liek to get things right and please the customer and take pride in my work. I just need custys, been working on ideas and online all weekend and tomorrow am out flyering and door knocking.

I dont get some people too, as you guys say above people do not want to better themselves or learn. I joined here as I new I could talk to people like all of you on this thread and get advice and learn things from pro's people whom are tried and tested. Its odd people dont want to learn stuff and improve there games, especially when you get a good set of people like on here offering help at no return, its really fantastic, the stuff I have picked up and the small things I have missed and been told.

I finally took the plunge on this with my favourite 14" channel. At first I was cursing as it was leaving missed spots all over the place, but I finally got it to work well again after about an hour of practice and bending little by little each time. At the moment I can't see the benefit of the bends myself as it just seemed to interfere when closing out, but its early days so I'll experiment a bit more before letting it loose on the public. I'll just have to use the 16 until then.

There doesn't seem to be any major improvement to the detailing if I'm honest but this may also improve with time when I play with the chanell and rubber. I already made a huge difference when I switched out the rubber for one that has an extra couple of mil in the ends so it shows there are a lot of variables not even counting individual style/technique. I like how the cut edges seem to let you get into the corners nicely, and it looks cool to boot.

When I get it perfect I'll do it to the rest of mine I reckon.:thumbsup:

Not a big bend..mine is literally only about a millimetre difference in height

Thanks mate, I'll play with it some more. The bend I have on the channal that I finished up with is very small but its an ettore which is quite a bit different to the unger so maybe I need to go more or less, not sure but i'll experiment and see if I can get it to work. Cheers.

I tend to wet the frames deliberately and then wipe off with sill/frame cloth so i can leave spotless frames and then squeegee glassIt seems to work for me and means you can scrub the frame without accidentally getting the glass

What do you do with wooden frames?
