Are window cleaners still allowed to work during Coronavirus (Covid-19)?

WCF

Help Support WCF:

Why don't you stop repeating yourself.

We know your opinion by now but everyone has their opinion.

It's not a moral crusade it's a window cleaning forum.

He may have no choice in the matter.

Just because you can get by doesn't make it possible for everyone no matter how much you say it's wrong.

I personally can afford to be off but I understand anyone in any self employed job going into work if their is no choice.

As I said before yes we need to look after others but my family will always come first whatever happens.

That is the way of life.. like it or not.
******, most of the people on this forum struggle to spell correctly, let alone string a sentence together, idiots. Goodbye.

A quick google search has given the answers we are all looking for.

Basically we can still legally work if we want/need to.

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/full-guidance-on-staying-at-home-and-away-from-others

"1.    STAYING    AT    HOME
You    should    only    leave    the    house    for    very limited    purposes:
• shopping     for     basic     necessities,     for     example     food     and     medicine,     which     must     be     as     infrequent     as
possible.
• one     form     of     exercise     a     day,     for     example     a     run,     walk,     or     cycle    - alone     or     with     members     of     your
household.
• any    medical    need, including    to    donate blood,    avoid    or    escape    risk    of    injury    or    harm, or    to    provide
care    or    to    help    a    vulnerable    person.
• travelling for    work    purposes,    but    only    where    you    cannot    work    from    home."

"4.    GOING    TO    WORK
As    set    out    in    the    section on    staying    at    home,    you can    travel    for    work    purposes,    but    only    where    you    cannot
work from    home.
With     the     exception     of     the     organisations     covered     above     in    the section     on closing     certain     businesses     and
venues,     the     Government     has     not     required     any     other     businesses to     close     – indeed     it     is     important     for
business    to    carry    on.
Employers     and     employees     should     discuss     their     working     arrangements,     and     employers     should     take     every
possible     step     to     facilitate     their     employees     working     from     home,     including     providing     suitable     IT     and
equipment    to    enable    remote    working.
Sometimes    this    will    not    be    possible,    as    not    everyone    can    work    from    home.    Certain    jobs require    people    to
travel     to,     from     and     for their     work     – for     instance     if     they     operate     machinery,     work     in     construction or
manufacturing, or    are    delivering    front    line    services.
If    you    cannot    work    from    home    then    you    can    still    travel    for work purposes,    provided    you    are    not    showing
coronavirus     symptoms     and     neither     you     nor     any     of     your     household     are     self-isolating. This     is     consistent
with    advice    from the    Chief    Medical    Officer.
Employers     who     have     people     in     their     offices     or     onsite    should     ensure     that     employees     are     able     to     follow
Public     Health     England     guidelines including,     where     possible, maintaining     a     2     metre     distance    from     others,
and    washing     their    hands    with    soap    and    water    often     for    at    least    20    seconds     (or    using    hand    sanitiser    gel    if
soap    and    water    is    not    available).
Work    carried    out    in    people’s    homes,     for    example    by     tradespeople    carrying    out     repairs    and    maintenance,
can    continue,    provided     that     the     tradesperson    is    well    and    has    no    symptoms.    Again,    it    will    be    important     to
ensure    that    Public    Health    England    guidelines,    including    maintaining    a    2    metre    distance from    any    household
occupants,    are    followed    to    ensure    everyone’s    safety.
No    work    should    be    carried    out    in    any    household    which    is    isolating    or    where    an    individual    is    being    shielded,
unless    it    is    to    remedy    a    direct    risk    to    the    safety    of    the    household,    such    as    emergency    plumbing    or    repairs,
and    where    the    tradesperson    is    willing    to do    so.    In    such    cases,    Public    Health    England    can    provide    advice    to
tradespeople and    households.
No    work    should    be    carried    out    by    a    tradesperson    who    has    coronavirus    symptoms,    however    mild.
As    set    out    in    the    section    on    closing    certain    businesses    and    venues,    the    Government    has    published guidance
on    which    organisations    are    covered    by    this     requirement.    Advice     for    employees    of     these    organisations    on
employment    and    financial    support    is    available    at    gov.uk/coronavirus.
At    all    times,    workers should    follow    the    guidance on    self-isolation    if    they    or    anyone    in    their    household    shows
coronavirus    symptoms."

The missus works for the local council down here. Today she heard that one of the mobile cleaning vans, marked up as a council van, that go in to clean schools and other vulnerable sites including virus sites, was stopped by the old bill this morning. The driver explained their role and showed the officer a letter signed by the Council heads and The Chief Constable re their roles. The officer dismissed it and said that they were not essential workers and told them to go home or be fined. WTF. ?.They remonstrated but he persisted and not wanting further confrontation, they turned around and cancelled the deep clean of the site they were going to. Some of these officers need to get their facts straight and start exercising their discretionary powers. A formal complaint is being submitted.

so i guess if you are out there....good luck if stopped, seems like some of them will just ignore whatever you say despite the published national guidelines.

I would have took his or hers number and called Control and ask for 2 senior officers to immediately attend. If you work in that environment then you know what to do, when you mention it they usually bottle it.

Be honest with me, have you read the whole article that I left a link to? If you missed it, I post it again here for your convenience. I am not inciting bitchiness or anything else that would be upsetting to anyone personally, I like to think the facts speak for themselves, as much as I would like to think people can think for themselves also......I am trying to help...

This is exactly what happened to a friend of mine yesterday , if he is seen again he will be fined , he has put in a complaint and waiting to see what happens , I have it from a copper that I know very well that is what they have been instructed to do from the government again what the police have in writing is different ti what’s on the gov web site

All my custys today were told the same thing (as they have for last 2 weeks)- anything you need food/shopping/medicines/urgent jobs round the home make sure you phone me - I want to help...had a custy in tears - thanking me - another giving me HER number so for any of my other custy's alone that wanted a chat she will phone them...another one just separated with two young ones at home...could you build/put up the trampoline I've just bought to keep them entertained ' big doe eyes' - sure where is it - turned out she only had parcel 1 of 2 delivered - but told her to ring me when she get's it delivered...(all done observing guidelines)

You can help, really help people by obeying the law, showing kindness and not spending all day posting negativity

Flip it -  the Gov was asking for Volunteers - the 'I'm sitting inside guys' - did YOU volunteer ?

I sent out my first batch of texts today, informing customers that I wouldnt be working until things have settled down. Nearly everyone replied and not just one line replies. Everybody was very supportive. One couple offered to go out so that I could clean their windows and one lady kindly offered to pay me half of the window money each month until I started back....that really touched me as I know she doesnt have a lot of cash. I will send out the rest of the texts tomorrow.

Must admit, I have found this whole situation very strange and disconcerting. I went to bed last night wondering how this year would pan out with lockdowns, extensions to lockdowns and the economy going tits up. Its not a very enouraging picture, I feel.

Anyway, enough of that.....I ve got a pint of Tim Taylors in my hand, so cheers everyone.
I did a similar thing this morning too mate and had a really positive response. Although I respect others decisions I have no regrets staying at home even if we have only being going for 11 months and little financial support.

Regarding the grant for the self-employed, you guys are aware that you will not be eligible if you're a Director of your business and claiming the dividends?

Apols if this has been covered already- no way am I reading back through the last 20-30 pages since I last logged in!
