You turn up at one of the estates like the Wentworth estate in Virginia Water, or St George's Hill, good luck trying to get in there without being escorted away briskly by ARMED security..

?

I need cheering up, let me know when you try and I'll wave at you as your escorted by black police vehicles.

????
You’ve your wires crossed. I’m not the original poster.

If you’re talking gated communities then fair enough. I imagine that’s harder to crack, hence needing referrals based on what you’ve said. From experience I’ve found referrals the best customers without doing.

Yes I have no experience of the area, I still don’t agree you can’t set up and establish yourself in affluent areas. I’d bet there’s people in the process of doing that right now. It all starts with one customer.

When did I ever say that?

?

Something along the lines of ‘You won’t get work, it’s all monopolised, based on who you know, and they don’t pay through the nose’.
Well I managed to build up a good business from canvassing.

So did most others on here.

So again..Not sure what the point is?

I can tell you that you won't get the cream jobs from canvassing, but that's just canvassing in general you pick up the dross that no one else wants ..

The point is he could do it. I’d agree with you that you’ll get a lot of customers you won’t keep long term from canvassing. Based on what I’ve seen others say, you’d expect to lose 50%.

With that said, people will still be building there rounds there and elsewhere. The hardest I’d always getting the first few jobs in a new area. Then it grows. When? Depends on many variables, as you’d know.

Hello.

I can answer this question. I live in Woking, and the village I am based at is next to Chobham.where a large part of my round is.

I can tell you now, these customers are very particular, and only use people they can trust, me and one other local guy who has been shining 40 years have pretty much the monopoly on those property's. You can't canvass these... your invited i'm afraid, as they only use people whom they have had some form of connection with and built up a profile on.

---Added bit---

Actually, and I'll add a bit here.

There is very much a misconception that wealthy people will pay through the nose for higher rates. But again let me tell you, they might be wealthy, but they don't waste their money either and can see from a mile off someone trying to rip them off for their wealth, they have a derogatory name for these people..i won't repeat it here ??

I have an amusing story to tell you later on when I get home about a customer in Weybridge. (Not weighbridge) ?
Anyone can canvass where they want wether they get the jobs is a different kettle of fish , we do some jobs that others have tried to canvass at less than a 1/3 of what we charge but we still keep the jobs ??

After 28 years window cleaning we clean £300 house and £10  houses  I go wealthy areas and poor areas. Every job is fair game to a cannvasor.

do your job right build up trust and your job is safe regarding how much you charge.

if I was about to re startI would canvas all areas like I did in the past , nobody owns a patch or nowhere is boxed off.

competition scares some people &some thrive on it
