First wat er fed pole system what to look for?

Hi guys,

I'm moving from trad and I'm going to look at an astra van today with a 250l tank and an 18 ft pole. I'm just a one man band and it's all residential but with some large properties. What should I be looking for with the van and system. Only have a 3k budget. I must add I know next to nothing about the systems.

unless your going to keep a lot of trad work you will very soon outgrow a 250 tank especially at the beginning when you tend to use loads of water

Hi mate im not an expert on van mounts as i dont have a van mount but i do have tank on van and barrels and a diy trolley heres my twopeneth

An astra van will be too small if you plan on using wfp for all your jobs and growing your round.

Not sure on weight limit of astra van but you really need to be looking a a 500l tank, i would think a medium sized van such as dispatch, tranny connect etc is the smallest size you would want

I started with a 250l tank as i already had it but i have added barrells, so i have 500l available and i have come close to running out when doing first cleans, on maintenance cleans a typical 3 bed semi would use about 25l of water, up to doulble on a first clean.

You could certainly get away with a 250l to start if you are doing a mix of trad/wfp

If you havent bought the van yet i would strongly advise against an astra, i have a dispatch 815kg payload and with 500l of water, myself, fuel and all other bits and **** that accumilates its not far off the limit.

Buy a van and a system size that you envisage yourself using in the future otherwise you will buy twice.

If youre sure you wont need bigger you could diy a 250l system for 500 quid or so plus maybe 200-300 quid for a nice carbon pole.

£2000.00 for a ford connect make sure its the lwb high top they are a great little van, 450ltr tank will do you I use fiber glass pole but will upgrade to carbon when the money is there.

I will use 450ltr of water on first cleans to a value of about £150.00 then on maintenance cleans i go over to fan jets on my brush and a tank will last for about £350.00 worth of cleaning.

I think building a system is better as you'll know the ins and outs when it comes to modding or fixing. Unless you need it asap.

If you get the 250l can you refill on route or at lunch time at home etc should you need to?

Are the streets where you work narrow, hard to park, or spacious ? Size of van may make parking difficult.

Having bought a small van I'd agree get bigger where pos, but if kept tidy it's workable, just, with a small one and I like the fact I can squeeze into car sized spaces.

tom id say do it yourself as membranes etc wud need changed in 2nd hand system i brought a 2nd hand system and it was alll rubbish the pump were done membrane broke ro broke 2 filters were done and controller missing knob

Buy a yourself a little van and DIY yourself mate lots of great help on here when your ready [emoji106]

Hi, well what can I say I bought the van and system for £2800 the van seems good 2007 full service history just over 100k di system. Fingers crossed as I do have a habit of jumping into things.

I have a decent size round which are all trad at the moment so the transition might be tricky in places, my thoughts were to almost always trad the bottom and even still use the ladder in straight forward pitches. Maybe I will regret the smaller van but it does drive well and works as run around as well.

I've found people prefer the idea of wfp to ladder for uppers, small survey mind ;-)
