Has Anyone Tried Working With Snow & Ice With Wfp ?

WCF

Help Support WCF:

Been cleaning with WFP for getting on now 20 years. I have never had an issue with hoses freezing, as long as the van is nice and warm keep the flow going and your fine.

As for water freezing, well the conditions are self explanatory really. If it’s freezing outside, just pop down a bit of grit on any door steps, not rocket science.

I have been out since 8.30 and just finished
My van on first job
Still -1 now
Just used to it I suppose
Worked in -5 and +41 this year lol
My worker however is at home as I don’t expect him to be working if he doesn’t feel safe

Work or don’t it’s up to each individual.

Areas are also different I believe up North or midlands isn’t to bad ,down here we had probably had around 8-9-cm On Monday.
Still probably 4cm or 5 cm of snow now and what isn’t snow is now compact sheet ice.

I did a bit of retail work yesterday but the big stuff isn’t happening every job requires Rams and that can’t be justified or guaranted safe in this.

Extreme weather is very rare these days it’s unusual to lose more than a couple of days a year at most.

@Dave B you must be the only guy local out fair play seen about 3 vans local to mine haven’t moved all week.
Do you pay staff for days off with this weather?

Believe it of not I picked up a new customer today. Guy been messed about by 3 other cleaners and seen my advert and contacted me. Might be the beginning of more in that area because a guy has gave up.

I spoke to a guy on Friday his one of the more prominent well known companies in the area has 3 or so working for him and said his thinking of getting out and sellin.

Had a good honest chat with him and he said he just isn’t making the money.

The flats can wait

-7 first thing here.still managed to get my work cleaned.lovely views at times with the snow and ice!picture postcard!had a good day!even got £45 in tips....
Another 5 hour day tomorrow then I'm finished til Monday

I had an oil filled rad in the back of the van but today had pole hose on reel freeze! I only checked the bumper ports before I left - Oops. Arrived at first job plugged in and nothing at brush! Checked port to reel hose and that was partly iced up but after a bit of flexing it was good. Then worked out it was the pole hose on teh reel that had frozen, little flask of hot water not enough to completely thaw out, just had trickle. Laid it out in the sun but after 10 mins no better.
Nipped back home, put pole hose in bath with warm water and 10 mins later all good.
Managed to get all todays work done, even though that last job the water was freezing on the sills. Had water freezing on conny glass and rear porch but customers were fine.
Managed to stay warm all day, base layer, windproof trousers, heated gilet (no need to switch on - just in case), sweatshirt and Skytec Argons - toasty all day - it did only get down to about -4 Deg C at the end of the day - 4pm.

Oil rad temp turned up a little tonight and pole hoses brought in. So should be fine tomorrow.

We’re on plan Z to get out this week being southern fairies and not pre-preparing for prolonged freezing temps.

650L tank wasn't affected, everything else was.. since then have lagged all the internal pipework with foam then a layer of sheepswool insulation for good measure which has kept things moving nicely to / from the pump, 100m of hose and poles kept indoors currently.

Today’s palava was everything working bar the connection to / inside of the hose reel being frozen inside the reel causing a dead end.

Cue another chunk of pipe to bypass the hose reel connection and go from there. All working at 8pm, we’ll see what the next drama is in the morning ?
