Does anybody have any experience on using a Mansafe fall arrest system on a flat roof ?

Do you need a special attachment on the harness for it to move freely?

How awkward is it moving around will it add considerable time being attached when cleaning?

Trying to look online but a lot of websites just install and test the system.

Thanks

Many years ago we were called in to quote solar panel cleaning on a flat roof of the local school.

They decided against cleaning the panels as it would mean fitting the 'very expensive' Mansafe system. On top of that, the certification of the system's safe use was only guaranteed for a year. Each new year meant a new certification. Certification wasn't cheap, and the school couldn't justify that cost for occasional use.

The only way of ensuring that the system was safe was load testing each anchor point. When does the strength of the anchor loose strength when putting it under load each time it's tested? Is it the same situation as the straw that breaks the camel's back? If memory serves me, the system had to be replaced every so many years due to age and metal fatigue.

We purchased a safety harness for my son when he had high level internal cleaning from a scaffold tower. The harness and lanyard had to be replaced every 5 years according to the supplier. It didn't matter whether it was used once a year or every day.

We don’t do many but the ones we have done we just clip and lock a carabiner onto the wire and then tie off a line to prevent anyone getting within 3 meters of the edge it’s quite a good easy to use system and is very quick to move around , but again agree working at heights paper work is becoming a pita we are doing less and less of this type of work personally find it doesn’t pay what it should , ime used to doing all this type of stuff with the fire service and there systems are even stricter .we use it as a restraint and fall arrest depending on the type of job .
