Professional Tank Fitting

WCF

Help Support WCF:

Had Protectakote in 2 vans now, as that is all PF use. Won't be getting them to do any future van installs as Speedliner is much much better. Had it in the "new" van for nearly 2 years now and there's not a mark on it.
Speedliner is good , but line x is just as good and usually cheaper give that a go on your next van see what you think

It's fit for purpose in that it does what it says on the can (literally), but there's just no way of making it look clean. I like to gut the back of the van from time to time and I'm always left disappointed by the state of the floor because of the protectakote, to a point I'm half tempted to have my tank removed and something else put down

I believe that the coatings can be sprayed on by most car garages that deal with spraying. The prep, masking and spraying of the coatings is similar to normal spray jobs. Might be worth having a local ring round to see if anyone will do it for a reasonable price then you have more choices on system fitting.
To be fair Hydra Master seemed really reasonable. £55 an hour for the install. £700 for the line x. If we're at a grand for a good job it's likely worth it. One of my chaps is off for a week to the coast in 2 weeks time, he's willing to go in the van and drop it/pick it up so will all tie in nicely.

Not sure if you've ever used protectakote before, you more than likely have but it's what I put down in the new van and I hate the stuff. Horrible putting it on and a s*** product once its on, I went with black which shows the muck!!!

Wish I'd have paid someone to do something professional now ?

I used it on my first van which I didn't have long. I put it down in the second van and it started to come away pretty quickly. I got GrippaTank to install Speedliner eventually. It was a massive job in comparison to normal because of the removal of the protectakote so paid them a premium for that. The speed liner is awesome and I would certainly have it done again but I can't find another supplier. On my second van I tried Raptor liner. Seemed awesome at first but it didn't take to the bed and started to flake after a couple of months.

Speedliner , line x cannot be sprayed unless you have specialist equipment, raptor can be sprayed using a shults gun as can protect a coat

Line x isn’t thin it’s practically the same thickness as Speedliner ,the thin stuff is raptor I have all three on different vans
I don’t see it mate. This is front their website. That looks like a strong thin layer. That’s what I saw on a van first hand also. My Speedliner is much thicker, it sort of has the texture of clotted cream.

They were miles apart on price. I thought about getting the system installed elsewhere and having them do line x. They quoted £200 to remove and a further £700 to reinstall.
Not too bad a price, but it all depends on what they want to spray the van if you don't consider it value for money then best to look elsewhere

Just buy a small tin and repaint it, on the tin it talks about prepping etc I paint straight over the top, that's all I did in the past, they have Protectakote UVR, Tough, UV Resistant, Flexible Anti-Slip Coating which they state is more hardwearing and dries in half the time a 1ltr tin may do the back of your van,

Mine is well overdue for a re-paint, and the weather is warming up, now is probably the best time to strip my van out and re-paint the floor as it's been a few years.

Line x is the same but does depend how it’s applied it can have a smooth or textured finish depending on what you want , as an example if it’s for food or freezer vans it’s applied smooth so it can easily be cleaned for our job walking on it etc it’s generally applied textured to give grip etc

What I like about speed liner is its smooth finish. I can get it looking as good as new with some fairy liquid, a cloth and a stiff dishwashing brush. A textured finish would hold the dirt. I've got some inquires to make. I may end up with x line just out of convenience depending what supplier can offer what.

Yeah but that place down in Redruth was willing to do it for circa £300. I'm gonna ring ionics on Monday and try to negotiate. I really like the new van, I think I'm gonna swap over to it and let someone else use my current one. If its gonna be my van I will need to invest in a hotbox anyways.

If it helps, here is my van straight after it was done by Ionics. However, it’s no where near this clean now! I’ve taken everything out before (minus tank) and scrubbed, but haven’t been that successful. It looks pretty thin to be to be honest.
However, it also hasn’t come up anywhere so it’s doing its job well. IMG_5370.jpegIMG_5369.jpeg

Redruth is a fair trek from you though, I guess you need to weigh up the total downtime and loss of earnings travelling to Redruth would add extra hours and additional costs even though it's cheaper

Agreed, certainly worth weighing up. Redruth would work out. Dan is on holiday the week after next and happy to take the van down there for me. Outside of that even taking it up your way wouldn’t be the end of the world. It only takes me off the road. There’s still two of them across two vans.

Thanks mate. That looks similar to Speedliner only thicker. The stuff in that picture and the stuff I saw looked more like sandpaper

I had raptor on the Doblo, it didn't take to the bed and started to peel. Had to pay a surcharge to get Speedliner to replace it. It shall forever be know as craptor. My speed liner is distinctively thicker than line x though. To be 100% honest I'm happy with either, the whole deal needs to match in. I'm hoping to do it on a budget and add a hot box.
