Just wanted to post a quick note for anyone searching the forum for info on Seaflo cheap pumps.

Ordered in June 2024 as sick of my 3rd shurflo diaphragm going Kaput in 8 years. I know it's not bad but some on here have them 8-10 years old so I must be a bit of a pump abuser.

To be fair to Xline they replaced the first one in 2017 as it was still within a year of manufacture even though it was 2nd hand to me.

That lasted 5 years but the latest one has lasted just under 3. Started leaking water etc etc. Took it apart and can see rust and all sorts and not too sure what damage to motor was done.

So instead of another £130 pump I thought I'd try a cheapy not expecting much. Saw Seaflo had similar pumps and decent range on Amazon and eBay. So ordered one. The diaphragm was loose on arrival from the motor but just 4 bolts to tighten. Wiring into controller just the same with quick connects.

9 months on and very impressed. It's been faultless albeit a little noisy but I run the hose over the bare wheel arch and it's amplified rather than usual ply lined wheel box.

For a shade over £30 it would suit any new starter on a very tight budget or to have as a spare on the shelf in case of breakdown.

I just plumped for one with similar specs but next time I'd go bigger for inlet and outlet port as have to step up from 6mm to garden hose size at the hose reel as it goes through an inline tds T piece that I didn't want to swap out. That's for another day.

I've been using a similar pump on my Pure Freedom trolley for a long time. The pump cost me less than a tenner on eBay over five years ago.

I did have a problem initially with the pressure switch burning out due to the frequency of cycling the pump that we subject them to, using them as we do for an application they were not intended for.

I don't use an expensive controller, just a simple 20amp PWM controller, again purchased for under a tenner around the same time as the pump so I do rely on the pressure switch to switch off power to the pump when I shut of the water flow.

However, using a tip from someone on one of the forums, the issue was resolved.

The tip was to wire a 40amp auto relay into the circuit to supply the power to the pump and to control that relay with the lower rated pressure switch in the pump. That way the pressure switch on the pump only switches the small current needed to operate the 40amp relay. In turn the 40amp relay switches the larger current needed by the pump.

Since I employed this tip I've had no further issues with the pump and its been in regular use now for about five years.
