WCF

Help Support WCF:

A cable stored on a reel is no problem at all, in fact it's much easier to manage if you ask me - the problem is if you pull high current and the cable is all wound round the reel it can cause a fire. If you unreel the whole length it's fine.

Have a search for 2.5mm extension cable. A couple I found: https://www.sibbons.co.uk/product/25m-240v-13amp-open-cable-reel-2-5mm-8050/ £53 on idea on delivery or https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/clarke-ccr26-4-socket-25m-2-52mm-cable-reel-w/ £70 but you may have a shop close by? I have not used either companies or reels but both say they are using 2.5mm cable. You can just buy 2.5mm cable and a rubber plug and socket but getting 2.5mm cable into a plug and socket is not that easy as it's thick plus then you have to manually coil it up and that's probably a bit messy on gutter jobs.

Reels are great as long as you always unreel all the cable before use!
Ok the machine mart one is rated up to 3120 not 3600 maybe it's the 3m cable needed?

2.5mm is the size of the copper conductor. Technically 2.5mm can carry 24 Amps in idea conditions! So that's 230v x 24 amps = 5520 watts!!!

UK mains voltage was harmonised with EU voltage to 230Vac in 2003, it used to be quoted at 240v! A standard UK plug (BS1363) plug has a 13Amp fuse (Slow blow). So in theory 230v x 13 Amps = 2990 watts!!! Old voltage 240v x 13 amps = 3120 watts. So in theory if a gutter vac actually pulled 3600 watts it would blow a 13 Amp fuse!!!

In my opinion a fully unwound 25 meter extension cable with 2.5mm conductors will be the best for a '3600 watts' gutter vac. One thing to remember is switch one motor on at a time and give it 5 to 10 seconds before switching on the next as when a motor starts it pulls more current than when it's running.

As I have said always use an extension cable fully unwound - sorry to say it again ?

I'm looking at buying a gutter vac as a side line for my business, I do gutter cleaning by hand with ladders at the moment but it's a ball ache , I've been looking at some of the smaller machines due to storage and only having a small van,  Sky vac mighty atom , guttersucker junior , does anyone have any thoughts or recommendations for me regarding this , poles, vacs, nozzles ??

Just to give some feedback the commercial gutter vac from Skyvac is very very good.

Using it with a normal extension lead it does the job no blockages done about 5 jobs so far with it.

You wont go wrong with it massive difference to the old atom I had.

Also going to invest in a camera system they are selling the ones that don't record reasonably priced . I think it's a good audition just to show the customer and also for yourself so you can have good job satisfaction just in case you might miss something what's everyone's thoughts on getting the camera?

As the Sky Vac Atom has a "blow" function I'd be favouring that one. Probably very similar vacs but the GVS one has the 40' poles which makes it cheaper. Just depends how high you want to go.

Regarding doing gutters off ladders, do you use Pro Gutter Tools? If you don't these will make the job much easier.

Have a look at Gutter Vacuum Systems and their Panther 1700watt Vac. It has a 72mm cyclone inlet and 51mm poles. The others you linked to have 44mm poles and 50mm cyclone inlets! The panther is probably a bit more expensive if you buy the carbon poles but it might be worth looking at GVS.

Yes got the Pro gutter stuff , I'm a  thinking I want a gutter vac with a 10 metre hose , just think it would be easier using a ladder and the hose than the poles ?

I've had a look at the panther , they've got some great reviews ??

Thanks , I couldn't justify paying out for the commercial sky vac and storage is an issue too ?
