Solar panels

WCF

Help Support WCF:

Domestic roof top solar panel arrays were mostly installed south facing regardless and sold as never needs cleaning. So it dosen't matter what size pole you have as most you will find you can't do from the ground anyway...

Good luck with that question @Solar Steve has spent years of researching so keeps alot of information to himself /emoticons/biggrin.png
if we all did that this forum would die

Just thought a few basic tips of how not to die by electrocution would be something you would like to share /emoticons/unsure.png

And yes, electrocution is a risk if you don't know what you are doing, regardless of which pole you use.
Another very helpful and informative post from Solar Steve aka Richard Cranium.....

i think we all know why solar steve doesn't want to tell us because he doesn't want to lose work :Dbut.....we will all probably go on to do them if asked anyway..

..the only problem i could see and i haven't researched or anything, but have good electrical knowledge is...... if you

a, broke the panel....quite hard to do .but a brush head dropped from height on edge......and not forgetting does your insurance cover this?

b. caught the wires which link each panel together and tugged very hard and disconnected them, they are usually underneath and again would be hard to access with a brush and of course, as rubber is a total insulator the chance of a shock with rubber gloves is zero..:alien:...well unless you get them totally wet as of course electricity will track in the wet and bypass the rubber.

of course this is a forum and health and safety is our no 1 goal as we don't want to lose members due to unnecessary risk...of course it won't stop me doing them if asked, and of course at smurf rates, and i haven't yet even got a proper pole and would just be using my conservatory extending metal pole...

well my work at college was with klystron or some similar stupid name but the voltages were lethal and of course i went on to spend a lot of time with my hands in the back of tv sets....at voltages of 30thousand volts in the ht section which could kill..so i do know a bit about electricity....treat it with respect..

unless, of course solar steve wants to impart his greater knowledge and thus i will stand corrected and humbly apologise.:hiding:(just hoping to push him into a reply...he probably wants to see this thread die and be buried but inevitably it will return...:zipit:

I think this is why solar steve doesn't want to tell us somehow /emoticons/biggrin.png

Can My Window Cleaner Clean My Solar Panels? Many window cleaners have added solar panel cleaning to their list of services because they may already have some of the equipment necessary for solar panel cleaning. However, there is an electrocution risk associated with solar panel cleaning that is not present with window cleaning. So, yes, some window cleaners CAN clean solar panels, but may not know how to do it SAFELY. If you choose to use your window cleaner to clean your solar panels, please ensure they know how to do so safely and are insured for solar panel cleaning. The larger the solar array, the larger the risk of electrocution. The risk associated with solar panel cleaning is another reason that many people choose to use a professional, specialist solar panel cleaning company. This is especially true if you own a large solar array. Larger solar arrays naturally carry larger risk.

solar steve dont be shy we are all just waiting for your knowledge coming through,

i hav,int decided or not if I,m going to go for the solar panels cleaning but there is loads of work out there

as mentioned in early posts had word with an installer and he said no problem to clean them with poles

gd post smurf this could be more hassle than it is worth

gd post smurf this could be more hassle than it is worth...ditto....a bit scary reading that still doesnt say where the risk comes from..but i canna be bothered with the risk and insurance hassles....i will send em all to solar steve.../emoticons/smile.png

I foresee a higher electrocution risk as/when panels start to break down.

yep, put me off thank you mr smurf yet again...great vid....i foresee a situation where the output yield of the panels drops and so they call in for them to be cleaned when in fact it has dropped because a panel has gone bust....you have to be very careful you don't get the blame....also i bet for a fact you shouldn't clean them in the sun as i know up on a roof it can get very hot...and of course very cold... and 600v will knock yer socks off...i was told at college anything over 50v will give you a kick....yeh me not bother the windows don't look so bad now...../emoticons/biggrin.png and if i did do them i would want a disclaimer signed...oh and solar steve i know what your secret is....you do them in the dark where they have no output using night vision goggles....he he he

Well it was something I was going to look at as a add on, but definitely not going to bother now, could cause big problems. Nice one Smurf for finding that out
