Texting the night before……

WCF

Help Support WCF:

It justs adds extra work, if weather gets to bad you might not get them all done, worker can be off sick meaning you don't get round them all, if you get caught with customers that could add time. I have one customers key, all the gates where I am there either bolted at the top or you can get your hand through to open them.

It doesn’t add extra work, the opposite is true.
No faffing around with locks, no going over gates etc.
Also what if you get to a big house and it’s covered in scaffolding? You now have a gap to fill. If they’d received a text the night before they could of warned you.
It takes about 5 minutes in the evening. Not the biggest deal is it ????‍?

I send them night before and some older people only have landline so a quick call to say be in the area to clean they've always appreciated it tbh get some texts that they read in morning or the forgetters or deliberate odd miss back if they leave it too long I'd charge abit more i also text good communication is key I feel

If I was a customer and had a choice between a window cleaner like that and someone who asked me for a key to my back garden…I know which one I’d pick! But it’s horses for courses at the end of the day.

I can count on one hand the amount of customers I text the night before and that’s only because it makes life easier for me. Never had a problem I just turn up and do the job and get paid. No hassle. There is no right or wrong way or that some window cleaners are more professional than others. It’s just what works best for you.

Yes I text some but there again I also have keys and codes so i personally think it’s some of each at the end of the day ,and some I just turn up it’s knowing your customer what works best for both sides

If you didn't text there would be no gap to full, you just move onto the next one If there's building work.

Only ever text if gate locked ide rather go over top tho than text as it gives them excuses to cancel but when I do text I say I’m due Friday can you please leave gate unlocked many thanks that way I’m telling them I’m coming not asking if I can come

No way I'd b climbing over gates getting too old, although I had no choice yesterday customer gave me a key a few weeks ago to one of those new fancy prefab metal gates that have a door handle and lock like on a house door they are away on holiday and bleedin thing would only lock from the inside, not the outside and I didn't want to leave unlocked.

It would be manageable running a small operation texting, texting hundreds of customers every day isn't realistic, then having to go through the replies.
I think the general idea is you txt them to let them know you are coming , some use a txt that the customer cannot reply to , but I agree I cannot be bothered txting hundreds of customers per week .

Well I bet its not as successful as someone who employs 19 people. Each to there own though.
You don't employ anyone though, you aren't counting your dogs as employees are you ?

success shouldn't be measured by how many people someone employs because any business can go tit's up. how success is seen and measured at times these days is all wrong because it has become more about what someone has, the :poop: that comes out of people at times not aimed at you here but a lad I know whom I know better than he thinks sometimes tells me how a big a round he used to have and multiple employees non of which he has ever had

Being a window cleaner we’ve all experienced a bit of snobbery from the off customer. I always take it with a pinch of salt and remind myself exactly why I do this job and think about the quality of life it gives me and what it allows me and my family to do. I don’t have to prove anything to anyone other than myself. This site has been very helpful to me, even though I don’t post much. A lot of advice given by some people comes in very handy. But it always amuses those on here who have to brag about their businesses and who is a more professional window cleaner than others. I really don’t expect snobbery between window cleaners. We are all just trying to make a crust at the end of the day.

You’re missing the point of what a successful business is.
If your aim is to earn enough money in 2 days to cover your bills with a bit left over, and have plenty of time to do other things. When you achieve that then your business is a success.
If your aim is to run multiple vans , with a big turnover, and big profits, when you get there it’s also successful.

The point is that both are running successful businesses.

If you have alot of employees then texting doesn't work, people get sick and take days off, also where I used to work after you have done your 43 quote, you could work on bonus, you used to get half whatever the house was worth. It would be impossible to know if someone was going to work on bonus the previous night.if 2 workers didn't show up that's 86 customers worth of work that wouldn't be done because of less staff that day.
