Quick question,

Today i cleaned wfp in pretty high wind (40ish mph)

Ive had a customer message me and say that shes not happy with the clean as its left the windows quite grainey.

They are having an extension built at the moment. Im hoping this is the cause and not my cleaning as i thought id done a decent job, and rinsed well.

Is there anything extra i need to be doing in the wind?

Jon

I can definitely work in higher wind speeds than I used to when working on ladders. However, a problem I have had if it's too high is that it picks up the water dripping off the ledge and flings it back on the glass and this on occasion has led to a poor finish when dried. However, those kind of winds are rare enough to not cause me a big problem.

On blustery days, sometimes it ain't worth it as there can be quite a bit of dirt blowing around, more so if some one is having building work done, I would have avoided it on a windy day or just done the fronts to avoid a poor finish at the back of the house. I personally wouldn't work in high winds that are over 25mph

I actually shaat myself earlier. Hr21 fully extended straight up, clinging on and praying to the god of wfp.

Hopefully not so windy tomorrow.

When doing doing domestic, I give up when I end up cleaning the next window along because of the wind.

If you've had a night anything like we had everything is well plastered in crud, it gets behind the rubbers and a lot of windows are just like doing a first clean, all you can do is be observant and try to catch all the problems.

We have a whole week of 50/60mph winds forecast so not expecting to acheive much this week.

40mph or above in my neck of the woods and heavy rain, so potentially a write off tomorrow, but I am always optimistic so I will be prepared for a days work

After cross referencing a few weather apps for tomorrow it defo looks like it's gonna be a very gusty, wet day in our area @Iron Giant. Think I'm just gonna call it now and have a lie in ?

Most wfp suppliers suggest a maximum wind speed of 25 mph to work in , but I have never measured it ??? as others have said the water can be blown off the sills back onto the glass causing bad marks , try working in a sheltered area or pack up and go home would be my advice .

The BBC weather app is by far the most accurate and i make good use of it. Anything 25 mph plus is not good. Water blows away from the jets, dirt is picked up off the street and flung against windows, poles start waving around eratically the higher you go. If youre in doubt just call it a day and do paperwork/banking/advertising/go through your gear/sort out or order stock, theres usually a whole list of things to do on a naff day ? or just enjoy the time off.:.

I may depend were you are as to how good the bbc is, my example is there readings for my area are taken from a weather station over 20 miles or more away from me, if I was to do weather search for any town within a 10 mile radius of me it gives the same forecast, so I take all of them with a pinch of salt, I tend to use accu weather more, on the whole I don't consider any of them to be spot on including the ones on tv

Yes, don't  do it when it's 40+mph, especially if it's a building site. Wind will blow dust around and you've just left some nice clean wet windows for the dust to stick to.
I remember pulling onto a new estate/building site last year when it was windy, it was like a scene out of The Mummy there was dust blowing around more than 20ft high like a sandstorm.

Definitely looks like a write off due to wind today. Luckily the wife has a list of jobs so I won’t get bored. Deep joy ?
You could always park up in a layby, McDonald's, or coffee shop and wait for the wind to stop blowing. ?

Not the most pleasant sitting in the van this time of year, but it depends on the chores to be done.

working in high winds(40mph+)with WFP is just not worth it....i have a few times and made a mess of some windows so now i sack it off...its very rare the wind gets this strong for more than a few hours in these parts anyway......day off for me today......got presents to wrap then hit the gym i think......??

Yes if youre not directly near a weather station i guess this would indeed make a difference!
tv weather forecasting is hopeless

at best. They always give a regional forecast. It really is best to go by local forecasting isnt it

It certainly did today, as I expected not to work at all, I worked from 9 till 2.30pm and managed 22 jobs, I had to miss out dormer windows and veluxs on a few 3 storey townhouses, as it wasn't worth the risk with the strong gusts, but they were nothing near the forecasted 42mph winds

Currently in Cambridge, managed to get everything done today. Huge relief because I don't want a blank day 230 miles from home. Would've had to go on the drink all day ?
you ve got work thats 230 miles away from home?are you mental??sounds like you need to find some work closer to home....all mine is a 15 mins drive away from home.....over 300 jobs in a 5 mile area.....5-10 miles at most....
