GoCardless

I'm still paying the old rate 1% on all transactions through GC.

They introduced a 20p minimum a while ago but maybe they have frozen it at the old rate for older customers? I still pay 10p in a tenner.

Whilst the fees are not too bad at the minute. There is potentially a problem in that they can at any time (with notice of course ) increase their feed to whatever they want. So what if they decide to double them overnight and you have all your customers on them? Good luck getting them off it! .

It will happen overtime than GC increase there fees , and who knows if they become really popular they might increase them by a good amount.

As great as GC is, if you have all your eggs in one basket and something goes wrong your screwed. If they go out of business, there website gets hacked on servers go down you are not getting paid.

Of course I'm being pesemistic here but you never know.

Go Cardless take the money from your customers account and put it straight into your account, they don't hold any money. It takes 5 working days to process it. They take a 1% fee with a minimum of 20p and the fee gets deducted straight from the transaction. So it goes like this:
You request £15 from your customer for there Window Cleaning...... GoCardless then start the process of debiting the money from your customers bank..... 5 working days later you will receive £14.80 into your chosen bank account (£15 minus the 20 p minimum fee). As easy as that!!!

Nope your maths is wrong I had a payout out yesterday of £225.70 this was minus £2.30 in fees,  1% of £200 is £2  not £4.00

I don’t think my maths is wrong, but I am confused, and to be fair it’s easily done.

So do all the payments from individual customers get grouped together at the go cardless end and then at the end of the week they pay me one lump sum payment which is the minus the 1%, that way it’s not too expensive

but I interpreted as it’s either 1% or minimum of 20p per customer, if it’s this way it works out to be quite a lot of money

plus as adamangler says what’s to stop them increasing their fees ??

If you clean 20 jobs a day at a total of £200 and make 20 GC requests each day then those 20 payment requests are grouped together so 5 working days later you will get a payout of £198

Even though those 20 requests are lumped together within a payout they are all classed as separate payments as they are from 20 different clients so only the 1% fee is applied on the total.

PAY ATTENTION! I NOW OFFICALLY HAVE A HEADACHE! 😠

GoCardless charge 1% with a minimum OVERALL charge of 20p.

If you process 1 customer for £10 the the chaege will be 20p.

If you process 2 cuatomers at £8 each (£16) the charge will be 20p

If you process 1 customer at £20 the charge will be 20p

if you process 20 customers at £10 (£200) the charge will be £2

The 20p minimum is per processing batch as it were. You could put through £5000 of paymets and you will only pay 1% NOT 20p per client.

If you are just getting going do not process each custy individually as this will cost 20p minimum on all jobs below £20.  Wait till you have a few together and process them as a batch so that you only pay the 1%.

Now onto the trick you're all missing.

You're so busy worrying about the 1% plus 20p that you arent seeing how to rally maximize the earnings.

First: To the lad that calculated 20 x £10 Jobs = £200 so £4 commision daily = £80 per month.  Well that is wrong it would only be £2 daily so £40 per month. But paying someone £40 per month to collect £4000 for you so you arent out knocking on doors is a total steal.  If you think that is too high then rename your company 'Scrooge and partners'

Even if it was £80. That is still a steal compared to the time, fuel, paperwork etc involved in collecting in £4k

We do over £1k per week with GoCardless now but we only process payments once or twice per week.

Why?  Because of the MAXIMUM charge of £2.

If I process £200 the charge is £2 - 1%

If I process £400 the charge is £2 - 0.5%

if I process £800 the charge is £2 - 0.25%

Do you get it now?

Window cleaning is one of thr few jobs I have ever know with such superb income oportunities yet window cleaners are some of the tightest people you'll ever meet.

I'll use the £4 example once again.  EVEN IF IT WAS £80 per month you would still be hundreds better off in time, fuel and paperwork savings by comparrison to wasting your evenings trying to collect.

If you still dont get how much it will cost you call their customer service line  as perhaps they can explain it clearer.

If you are using Cleaner planner then you can bulk collect with the click of one button. Other wise it's separate through GC dashboard.

Once i got to that amount of clients i would miss odd ones then have to collect it weeks later or double :1f644: , So for me it was easier switching to CP even at that point

Thanks for the information mr green, very well explained just a shame it was put across in a rude and obnoxious manner.

I can only assume you didn’t understand what I wrote, as I said I do cash at time of clean or payment via transfer, and most customers pay within a week. Those that don’t I send a pre templated reminder text, no wasting time, fuel and money collecting. So if as you say go cardless was to cost me £40 per month, that’s £480 a year unnecessary spending as I see it, but you say I would still be better off by hundreds, I don’t see that either, but somehow that makes me a Scrooge. Absolutely no need for comments like that. The knowledge would be so much better received if it was put across in a nice friendly manner as most people on here do.

As it happens I have no intention of going go cardless, just curious as there was a topic on here about it.

And it was never my intention to give you a headache, so sorry.

I get it now, thanks.

Anyway, Merry Christmas to you and everybody else on here.

Heres somethings not everyone addressed.

1. If you spend 2 hours per week collecting money. Thats 8 hours per month at an average 2 cleaners per hour. So 8x2 is 16x £10 = £160 extra a month you'd earn if you didnt mess around collecting.

2. Texting customers. Your due me money, driving to collect it, person not in? Writting who owes what. Oh mr s smith? Who is that on my bank statement. I told them put the address.

3. Gocardless is so simple. You can work around your customers and take payment when they get paid and not when they've no money.

4. It has customer summary and emails.

5. Cash in hand economy will be a thing of the past. With gocardless you can prove your earnings and get mortgages etc.

6. Fuel fuel fuel

7. Its more professional

Just some simple point. Iv only just started gocardless and any new customer that wants my service will be gocardless or sorry no thanks.

@Lennie  if my comment was taken by YOU as rude and offensive then thats on you mate and all in your head.

The information you provided was simply used as an exaple as there was some math to use as an example.

The comments regarding fictional xmas characters was a generalaization........ so often you hear how many hundreds per day window cleaners take in this forum and in their next breath 'whats the cheapest way to do this or that'

If any of it had been intended as a personal sleight I would have made that clear by highlighting your name as above like so @Lennie

This is a 'typed' forum with no inflections or tones to interpret so if whilst reading the above you have decided to interpret that as a personal attack well that is not my fault mate.

This topic has been covered at least 20 time previous in other posts not to mention countless questions through PM about it.    And it is usually the same people providing the same missinformation time after time.

If you have no intention of bothering with GC why toss your hat in the ring to begin with?

Lastly, even with your efficient system (unless you do not class time as money) GC will STILL save you money on your collections.

** I make the above statements based on the assumption that you are using Cleaner Planer or Aworka (or any other program that has intergrated GC )

Running CP and GC makes the admin side of texting, round ordering, invoicing and collecting take no more that 30 mins per week.   I do not miss the days of 'check bank statement, hope they put a reference on it, find customer, mark it off in software, back to statement page and repeat for 25 customers each day.

HOWEVER it is all horses for courses @Lennie  and as long as how you run your business works for and suits you then rock on.

So I finally got my head round GC, signed up to CP with the intention of getting majority my customers onto it, only to find out at the verification stage that a business partnership cannot sign up! Miffed to be polite about it! Hey ho, continue checking bank statements and trudging the streets collecting cash.

I do not understand why.  I have used it as both a sole trader and Ltd company.  Have you spoken to them?  I have often found a quick chat with their vert good customer services team gets things sorted.

Hi Mr Green Pro. Ltd fine and sole trader fine even LLP good, just not a standard business partnership unfortunately. Spoke to them and they said its too higher risk for them which I didnt quite understand. They are looking into it as an option going forward though. Shame really. Thanks again for explaining it for us.

Wow.  There are many partnerships out there. I dont see the risk personally and dont get why.

Perhaps set up a seperate entity as sole trader with the sole purpose of collecting monies for the partnership.
