First time canvassing results.

View attachment 3036 So I did a one off clean for a woman a week or so ago and spotted that in the area there were a LOT of massive houses with dirty windows and decided this was going to be where I pop my canvassing cherry, so I got up early, had a good breakfast and got everything all sorted, drove the 5 miles to the area with some good tunes playing to get my all pumped up, playing over in my head what to say, parked up and confidently start walking to the start of the street, and this is what I saw.....

Sorry I can't get it any bigger and still upload it, but it says "POLICE NOTICE THIS IS A NO COLD CALLING AREA 0845 090 1234 TO REPORT A COLD CALLER" they were on the bottom of every street in the whole village lol

Wow, that is just amazing, never have heard of that before. I am about to go cold calling, over the years I have always had people knocking at my door, I am never rude, just say no thanks, if i want somthing then yes, that is how our house got our window cleaner. I think some people are just so pent up and rude, that is what we will have to face, they want to di engage from life and get their backs up at some cold calling. Ok I do nto liek ones that try to get you to convert to a religion or somthing, but offering a just service is ok with me.

Would love to see the reaction if you started cold calling lol.......... Hope your canvassing goes well though mate.

I do kind of live in a rich area, so maybe its just trying to keep the riff raff out /emoticons/tongue.png

I have never seen these before either, but then I have never looked, now I am actually looking there are quite a lot of them around this area it seems.

Thing is though, cold calling isn't illegal is it? so what can they actually do?

Obviously the people don't want it so I won't do it anyway, but I did speak to a couple of people in their gardens etc and they all seemed happy to have a chat?

It is probably just a few people whom object and have got the enforcement in place. I need to get out asap and go door knocking, I am waiting on flyers to arrive also and just finshed my web site and facebook etc....its taken me ages as done it myself. Daunting now, going door knocking. Oh well, just hope i spot these signs and do not offend anyone or get in jail for cold calling.lol

Yeah I did all my website, facebook, twitter, flyers, business cards etc etc etc all myself, takes ages.

Yeah I am trying to get to grips with facebook, not used it before, can nto see where to look for work on their, no buy want swap sites near to where i want to work, unless I am looking in wrong places, nt sure where how I cna advertise on FB, need advice help on that. I saw your search thing and thats good but can nto find any or other ways....

Yes as boarcity says, get to the next street, I so want to go out next week now and start mine. /emoticons/smile.png just spending this weekend buying stuff in and making it all go live, etc etc...

Just join buying/selling sites close to where you want to work, people living there will join them, I am getting about 5-10 customers a week off facebook.

the big mistake i made in the early yrs was doing a big 1 time effort of canvassing and then thinking id done enough for 1 year and then sitting at home waiting for results. in reality i should have carried on ,little and often is what get results. a little bit of facebook, little bit of fliers / doorknock once a week etc is what works .

i NOW realize that going out for 2 or 3 sessions in the springtime is a poor effort

Hi Boarcity, Thanks for the tips, I have gathered so much help on here an from your good self on number of occasions.

I left my job and have carefully looked into this market and have been working on learning some skills on the windows at home and have looked at the best equipment I cna afford for now, basically got everything I need ready now and planned and really am fully versed to go.

I am as you said going to hit facebook the best I can, get my web site online and twitter. I have located all the local boards to put cards on. I have 2500 flyers on order and will spend each day flyering them until they are all gone and then buy some more and do it all again as fast as I can. I will also in between that, go door knocking, when the flyers are all done for now I will spend each day 10-2 door knocking non stop as have a big area, the more doors the more chances and I was not goign to door knock until I read on here how important it is within window cleaning. So it helps I am not working as I can dedicate 24 hours a day promotion, I will not stop marching the streets door knocking and flyering, until I probably have to many cuts and brusies from people slamming the door in my face. lol

Cheers for your insight Boarcity. Diwrnach, thank god you mentioned abt the signs as I prob would have not noticed them, I will look out in my areas for those signs..... I dont want to end up behind bars for 50 years for cold calling....lol

I gather it is illegal or there are restrictions in place to prevent it. Certain roads around my area have police notices up. Mainly the old people's flats etc. However what I tend to do is leaflet drop those areas only instead of door knocking them.

I have seen them signs on the living room windows next to front door, but still door knock. Had no problems at all

Also when I,m grafting do find if there is a potential customer next door or across street, its like a magnet canny help myself must chap the door.

Half hour to an hour daily is enough for canvassing for me

Never seen those signs before. As Aj said earlier, its definitely worth dropping leaflets in each letterbox. Must admit,I would be tempted to knock on a few doors......as far as I am aware, it isnt illegal and seeing a notice like that is a bit of a wind up. On the canvassing front, just go for it, day after day. You will, at times, feel thoroughy dejected and rejected, but keep your chin up and grind on until you get a decent level of customers. Thereafter, recommendations and neighbours spotting you cleaning will increase your customer base. Just believe and never ever give up.
