Are window cleaners still allowed to work during Coronavirus (Covid-19)?

My niece is working with  covid patients at hospital in Aberdeen, strangely enough she got pneumonia in jan/Feb  time, probably had it herself already, as had been at Spain at that time.

But if people are being fed the wrong info by their local police, we need their MPs to contact the local police and clarify the guidance.
If you speak to a police officer with respect, show them the information from your local MP etc, they will let you on your way. I imagine with the amount of people actually flouting the rules we will be put into further lockdown this coming week. At which point the question about working will be answered for us.

Police are trying to hit the headlines to get a 'tough' msg out there - hence they are deliberately releasing drone footage of couple in the middle of nowhere walking on national tv/media to do their job for them (just read this forum) it would be entirely unenforceable any fine if issued if you took it to court and  wave the guidelines (re working) in front of the judge who - will promptly say - case dismissed, but they are not trying to get convictions but headlines - so the 'masses' crawl back under their stones -
Like all emergency services they are under pressure. In the last week I have seen so many examples of people breaking the social distancing rules. I live in a lovely part of the country, people are driving here for their daily exercise. If they have to hit the headlines to control people then so be it. Some of it is a little daft though.

I contacted Merseyside Police via twitter 30 mins ago and received this reply.

Hi government guidelines state that non essential work must not be carried out John.
Be interested where they found those government guidelines. I've read them, had a link sent to me from Hampshire Police, nowhere does it say "essential work". Just "if you cannot work from home".

Pjj please thank your daughter for the work she is doing and give her these ????? (imagine them beautifully wrapped)
Thanks that’s very thoughtful of you , they are a very hard working team of guys and girls she is based at the busiest ambulance station in the area , it’s a relatively deprived area so they do see some sights , she has been used to me coming home from the Fireservice for 30 + years with stories of jobs we have been on so not fazed by much , but this has got her worried by the way ones are deteriorating  quite quickly , all the front line nhs staff deserve all our respect and assistance to stay at home as much as possible to make there working lives easier and save lives ultimately .

Correct, it was stated by the Government if your self employed and can't work from home go to work. There is no reason gardeners and window cleaners can't work if they using correct procedures.

There is a study from a professor at Oxford that says a high percentage of people may have already contracted it and shown little to no symptoms. My youngest had a raging temp and cough at the beginning of Feb. The doctor claimed it was tonsillitis, his cough lasted for ages, we all got coughs too. His symptoms were that of Corona so who knows ?‍♂️

Someone asked if we was working on another page, giving that the Government was telling us if we are self employed and can't work from home go out to work as normal. This was my reply.

Personally I assessed the situation looked at the facts and what the government was telling us. After making a few adjustments in the way we work and alter automated texts quantity I decided as a business I'd carry on. The points that swayed me where firstly no threat to customers as no contact whatsoever, secondly 2 employees both who have families to support and thirdly myself. I could of last 3 to 4 months with no income but certain Bill's would not have been paid. I'm the only one who works in my house so I'm also providing for the family.

I am assessing the situation daily as the situation evolves and if at some point I feel things are too bad I'll stop and still pay my workers rather than lay them off. Everyone's circumstances are different, assess and make your own decisions with or without this threat.

We've had 7 cancellations last week from 182 houses, the rest complied with what we put in place and they were pleased we'd been. I even had an elderly customer holding up a big thank you notice from inside her window.
Can I ask do your employees and you all have separate vehicles to work from ?

My missus reckons we had it mid Feb after a weekend gigging in Glasgow where at all three gigs the same party of Germans were also at ... The following week we were gubbed

That’s the problem we have we work two guys over van and cannot do that now .
Tesco have to send vans out with a driver and a trainee. If there is no other choice there is no other choice... From a safety point of view we really shouldn't.

Imagine going back to December and seeing this conversation. If I told you this would happen you would think I'd taken something haha.

Key workers  are exempt from this like Fireservice , ambulance , police officers etc but as window cleaners we cannot have any one else in the same van that doesn’t live in your house with you , Ime certainly not having all my staff move into my house ????

There are not.. there are possibly 2 with 1 being worse than the other..

They haven't even been able to.confirm that yet.
Think you will find there are  18/strains  of it before this one that’s why it’s called covid 19 as there are already 18 known ones from years before , I me guessing that there will be several strains of covid  19 some worse than others just like the flu or common cold has many variables , not everyone has the same symptoms , but guessing all this will become more apparent as more knowledge is gained about this virus .
