How to get good staff?

The work loads coming abit too much for just me and needing abit of a hand on the round. I’ve lined up a new round so I can employ someone else full time. How’s the best way about getting some full time staff? Looking to pay about 70£ a day (Manchester)

In don't employ, but a couple or friends of mine helps out with a few of my customers. We do a 80/20 split, but they have their own company, van, insurance etc.

My father in-law cleans in Denmark, and he gets 52% of the income, but his employer of course carries all expenses.

If £70 is about half of what they earn, you might need to rise your prices.

Edit: just to point it out, I'm not in the UK, so take my advice with a grain of salt.

if you want someone to take a bit of pride and care in the work and to show loyalty to you  your gonna have to be paying more than £70 a day! Assuming it's a full days work your paying them for!

Well I don't know what area you are but if you're so busy you can't do all your work and therefore have to employ, but won't be anywhere near VAT threshold after, you might be better upping your prices and dropping the dross, and not employing.

People assume the best thing to do is employ to grow their business because they are snowed under with work, but I agree it's not the answer for everyone and it's better to re-evaluate a business and take a real hard look as to the best way to progress a business and maximize turnover and profit.

70 bucks is a lot where i am. Illegal window cleaning staff are on 50, legal on 60 upward..

You will be hard pushed to find a window cleaner on more than that bar a few commercial and specialised cleaning aspects. My lads on £10 per hour. I've, literally, employed 100's of people, in a previous business and never asked one of my staff to do something I wouldn't. This has included cleaning drains, driving HGV and working on furnaces, I wouldn't work for £10 an hour in the NE so wouldn't expect anyone I employed to do so.

That’s why I said as a window cleaner. Also there’s a big difference between what you would do and what happens in the real world.

95% of them would be classed as unskilled labourers.

I am working at a church at the moment. They asked the preferred maintenance company for a quote to repair a wooden hatch. Their quote for a day,s work was £1200. That's what these big companies are charging because under a grand and they are not interested. I am beginning to realise why our public buildings and now banks are falling to bits. They save money by not maintaining their buildings and just stick a plaster over the problem. Then it eventually collapses and they complain about finding the money for it.
