Is your van worth what you're paying?

Well, having listened to opinions and views on the topic and investigated the costs of acquiring a brand new van I have come to the decision that my net van will be an older van that I will then totally overhaul and customize the hell out of, similar to @Eviestevie but I don't think I will go carbon /emoticons/tongue.png

I have a vision in my head of exactly how my van will be set out so if I can translate that to an actual workable vehicle I will be very happy.

I plan to start in March when the weather is better as I will have to do most of the fitting on the road side as I don't have a driveway and hope to have it ready for April.

This means that my current trusty steed will be going up for sale so if anyone is interested let me know, 57 plate SWB Trafic 115ps. 167'000 miles, (oil changed every 3000 serviced every 10'0000) Roof bars500L tanks with RO and DI built in, pump, water genie digital controller external ports, 100 meter hose (8mm) with reel and Water Works Power Winder, One shot remote, 110mah battery, gas heater for hot water, Protectakote covered floor and sides, ply lined shelving. I will also include a 25 ft SLX with brush so if you are a newbie you can literally go straight to work from this van.

As I said if you are interested then give me a nod and we can discuss it some more, but I am in no hurry and wont be parting with it as I say till around April 2016

For all the guys here going out earning £200 plus per day and claiming to do so on a regular daily basis then I'd of thought a new van fully fitted out and changed out every 3 years or so would be a breeze and a real no brainer, in fact I'd of thought most would already be in one. It gives a good image to your business, along with that your working out of a nice van with good kit each day you go to work, any problems are provided under warranty so you no longer need to worry about a pot of spare cash to fix it when it breaks. For what it's worth it's a no brainer for me. Just a nice cost against the company.

I go for a van that's around 2 years old that way it still has a year left to run on the warranty.

I prefer to buy than lease but if you vat registered then leasing is the most common method.

It's about what they want to spend on a van and how much money there willing to lose on the new van each year!

I personally have no debt at all with the business and I like it like that

Less outgoings more money in the business account is how I role

Also we don't plod along and the van does take a beating somedays

If was brand new it would slow us down

Personally I bought mine privately 6 months old with no VAT, that way it was a good chunk less than going brand new, but I still got what I wanted. I get upset if I see any dirt in my van so I guess a new one suits me lol.

Exactly the same trev. Bought my van 5 years ago, 6 months old and have been putting £250 away every month so I can replace it when ready. Its just reached 45 000 miles but going to keep it a while yet. And yes, if I see any dirt on it I go into panic mode

That could be the move Trev, even though my round is nicely profitable I cant see my buying a vehicle that will lose £10K as soon as I drive off the forecourt.

You said buying a new van and keeping it for 4 years. Assuming it's in good nick. Would be 6/7k.

That figure is way out. When I was looking at 4 year old transits 1 and half years ago a decent one with low miles was 9k-10k.

The transit custom has lowered values as its been around for 2 years.

So what you are suggesting is my van will be worth 6k when it's 4 years old?

That would be like 45-55k a year minimum! Yet they whine about a 3£ hoselock fitting or a customer who dumps them. Lol.

£30per hour times 7 hours = £210. Nothing magical about that. My mate Joe doesn't stop work until he's done £260 per day, but he has no breaks.

To be honest if you are not doing £200 per day I have to think you are doing something wrong (or just doing half days)

I personally choose not to work Fridays, I do like a three day weekend /emoticons/smile.png)

I think £200 should be about standard daily figure up and down the country for a full days window cleaning I'd of thought? I have a few days on my cycle that do that and many that do not yet, but I am still growing my rounds and are quite new compared to some that have loads of years behind them going out with full rounds each day. I still like to keep days free for one off jobs that can make more than the £200 a day, plus the commercial stuff that can make far more than that per day if you can get it.

For @Damo £200 is perhaps a quiet day hey /emoticons/biggrin.png you gotta have some till to have loads of cox reels lying about lol.

If you buy a van outright then it's tax deductible up to £12,500 (or was, the figure may have changed).

If it's whole value has been deducted you can't continue to write it off against tax in subsequent years. That was before the change when a vehicle had to be written off over a number of years.
