Poles freezing

WCF

Help Support WCF:

Back home after an hour, pole freezing at the brush. Big shame as there is no wind so no penetrating cold, It was quite pleasant to work in but it was a bit slushy on some windows. -6 last night about -1 now warming up to 0/1c by 1/2pm.
can be @r$d so probably a classic Christmas film this afternoon “ The Bishops Wife”.
can’t be the only one frozen off the glass today?
South Wales

no work today . controller on but no power coming from the pump . Same issue a last friday but managed to warm up with water bottle and calor gas heater thawed all hose pipes etc

Even my pure water in water butt froze for first time. Not working as got covid but think it will be easier when sun comes out later in the week

I'm off all week, don't think we get above zero during the day. ?

I normally suffer with cold feet and cold hands in these types of conditions. I was looking on a diving website to see what gloves they use and came across some information that said that your body prioritises your core organs, if your body detects them being cold then it effectively cuts off the heat going to your hands, arms, legs and feet and heats your core organs.

So based on this information I added a fleece underneath my usual ultra thin windproof coat with my usual thermal jumper underneath the fleece. I've been nice and toasty all week, feet not been cold at all despite standing on frosty lawns, fingers go cold for about the first hour but after that they've warmed up. That's with wearing shorts as well, so feel like I've cracked it now.

Couldn't work without gloves though, my fingers feel the slightest cold and suffered really bad before now with them.
Good research Chris, I suffer from cold hands and feet but I'm also a skinny runt! yes runt, My core is never that cold I did buy some lovely toasty warm salopettes for fishing a year ago they are fleece lined and waterproof, I actually got them from Aldi and they were only £30 but never seen them in the shops since as I would buy another pair if I could
It's trying to stop my fingers from freezing is the issue I always have in winter I might invest in some Skytech Argon gloves I do have some that look very similar they are orange but they really don't keep the frost out, but are waterproof

I was ok last week but I really suffered with the first hour today, my fingers were that cold that they went numb and I started feeling sick, I carried on because I had to and just thought if I go through the pain then they might warm up. To my surprise they did warm up and the second job I was ok, but the third job they started to go cold again, not as bad as the first one but I could feel them starting to go uncomfortably cold. The rest of me was absolutely fine though, my feet normally feel it but they were toasty warm, my body was warm, head warm... just my frigging fingers, lol.

I think today though was colder than the days last week and we had no sun here today. The houses I was doing had snow on the ground and there were snowmen on the front lawns of some of the houses. It was like a freezing mist, not as bad as fog but it was really cold. The water was freezing on the plastic door surrounds (don't know what you call them but only see them on new builds), so I had to leave them as it looked a mess with frozen water on them.

I saw a post on here about putting your hands in freezing water before you start the day. Apparently it's a fishermans trick or something so I might give that a go. If it wasn't for my fingers freezing I'd be as happy as a little lark in these conditions, I don't mind it, the glass is still clean and the frames don't really look bad at all.

Well, I'm going to try some thin liners under my waterproof gloves I've also ordered a pair of Skytech Argon Extra! They will be here by the end of the week when it's back up to 15c :ROFLMAO:
Yes, I know the plastic surround like a door porch all the houses I do have them as I'm 99% new builds. I do need to think about missing them out and the front door as don't want to leave black ice right outside the door!

i use the Argon Skytec + i now wear a pair of Poundshop wool gloves underneath as a baselayer. Seems to insulate your hands more . If needed ill stick a Hot Hands pouch in each glove resting in my Palms

We could be better if we found a way to cover the bottom section of your Pole where your hands go.with something like the grey pipe cladding or simmilar not as thick . Something to take the Cold from the Pole itself when holding it . Too thick insulation would make it too big to hold all day in your hands

It has been said Paul
Got too much commercial to be done by Xmas to be dossing at home
More blocks of flats tomorrow
Yes we are flat out don’t think we will get everything that I planed on getting done done by the 23rd got about 3 days gutter vaccing. 4 detached houses to softwash the temperature at the moments no good for that and the gutters are frozen solid as well . Then there is the normal domestic Windows and a big hotel and 6 apartment blocks to do all covered with salt ????

Hypo doesn’t like it below 3c
I’ve done full render cleans in -1 but it takes a lot more chem applications usually
I have a green patio with badly blown mortar between the sandstone slabs and am waiting for a warmer day to hypo it as can’t pressure wash the joints

I worked 10am-3pm today....-2 most of the day,no issues whatsoever...even swept any standing water away(it didn't freeze!)...3 x 5 hour days left this week then off til Monday.?
Must be warmer up north for once
-6 last night in Hertfordshire then around -3 all day here
Water freezing as it hit the ground lol
I just trad pole the odd high window that might cause a slippy puddle below with wfp

You know what the cure for that is a nice cold dip to fire your circulation up ? I suffer the same although not as badly these days, when buying a pair of gloves make sure they aren't a snug fit get one size up this allows for the warm air inside the gloves to circulate and also allows for a thin glove liner if needed the reason ski gloves and similar are so well padded is it's not just to keep the hands warm it's to allow for a bigger gap between your fingers and the outer of the glove so the warm air can circulate,

I got recommended MaxiDry Zero Thermal Waterproof Gloves 56-451 - SafetyGloves.co.uk by someone and asked him about sizing he said they were on the large side I found out they weren't they are nice warm gloves but my finger ends will go ice cold if I try and wear them on a frosty day as they are too snug a fit so I'll stick with my size 9 Skytec Argon extra they are too big and stink but they keep my hands nice and warm
