Am looking at getting my back pack fairly soon.

BUT

I have no idea about how to purify water.

I have a garage but its about 15mtrs from my house so running a hose to garage is nearly impossible.

I have no idea where to get the water from or even how id go about finding any.

I live in North Norfolk, postcode NR25

Any help or pointers would be gratefuly recieved.

Jon

You in a similar situation tha I was in 8/9 months back. My outside tap was a solid 20 meters away from the garage where my I could tank was stored (or going to be stored).

you just need a decent length hose pipe and have it run to the garage with the RO and DI installed, that's all I do. It's a bit Heath Robinson but it works fine as I decant into 25litre barrels afterwards, then into the van they go.

If you have a garden just get a 600l ibc tank and a small plastic keter shed and small plastic keter cabinet for ro and Di that's what I have next to one of my outside taps under kitchen window I just reverse the van and fill up in a few minutes.

Yeah trouble i have is im mid terrace and between mine and my garage is neighbours house and neighbours garage.

The only thing i can think of is to use my neighbours tap which is 5mtrs from my garage and then pay them for the water.

How long does it take to purify 500ltrs of water from a hose through the system and into a tank?

This is an option but my garden is tiny

Any chance you could fire me a cpl of pictures of your set up?

Depends on a few factors @HWCS getting to 500 litres of pure. I have a 600 litre inc tank, feed by a hose from the tap. Pressure is one factor, my pressure is pretty good but I have a booster pump anyway to increase flow and reduce filling time. The other factor is the RO system, mine is a daqua 450gpd system, pretty small but very productive and comes with hoselock fittings.

to make 500 litre of pure would take me about eight/nine hours, so 9-5 let's say.

i think we need to see some pics of what you have to work with, the garage in ideal in your scenario, especially if you have a back yard (even a small one).

Or would it be better to direct it straight into your tank in van, if you could park van closer than garage? The only way to produce it quicker is a 40/40 or 40/21. 40/21 is good, I get 250 litres in 2 hours. gonna cost you 400 odd tho, cant remember off top of my head, look up daqua site. Also, if water pressures bad may need a booster pump too. thats several hundred more. but theres a good chance you may have pressure of 50 or so, then you wont need a booster. Its all expense, but if your gonna go down the road of wfp too, you'll have to get it sooner or later.

Mind you, if your only using it for a few bits n bobs, you could get the rainwater off your roof in a butt, then filter it through just a di. Some good info online in places, about using rainwater. Then if you use pure more often, go for the whole ro setup.

I clean predominantly trad and will only be using backpack for awks windows, so will prob only need 50ish ltr a da, but would like to carry 4x25ltrs in the motor a day just incase.

Currently work out of my Zafira.

An option im considering is a local windy that i pass on a few jobs to that i cant do, produces his own water and always has 1000ltrs in hia garage.

Im considering trying to strike a deal to maybe get him to fill me up say 500ltrs a time, into a tank that ill keep in my garage and then just decant that into my drums.

But im worried the TDS wont remain low enough while transfering from

His IBC to his van

His van to my IBC

My IBC to my drums

My drums to my backpack

Also i habe no idea what would be a fair price to agree on

Mind you, he'd want a bung for his troubles too. but once your IBc is full should last you an age.

Yeah i was thinking 5p a litre plus a good drink for his messing about and he would have to do a 25mile round trip to deliver it to me.

Water £0.05ppl = £25

Delivery 25m plus time £40

£65 for 500lt of delivered purified water dont sound to bad to me but that said i dont know as im totally blind to all this.

Hopefuly id only need 1 fill up a month, if i need it more often then i. Pretty sure id need to be looking at my own set up.

Opinions?

yeh you might find yourself gradually using it more often for more properties when you see how much easier it can be. Then when you know you'll be using it regular, get a 40/21. I have mine on a board, and carry it outside to do the production, and park the van close enough to house to pump into van tank. long hose doesnt matter.

Ffs ill be honest i never even though about that!!

I have no idea what weight my zafira can carry but ill certainly look into it.
10 25litres only be 250kg so will be fine, space them out. But i reckon in time we have another tradder bite the dust, on the slippery slope of the wfp ?

Nah, seriously tho, dont half make working day easier.

The bigger keter plastic shed stores the 600ibc tank a 1000l is a little too large won't quite fit.

other side of the fence is my 450gpd RO and DI inside the small keter cabinet you can see it is insulated inside and also outside I don't have any heating inside the cabinet and it never freezes.

I can produce 1000 to 1200 litres each day depending on how cold it is.

My water pressure is approx 70psi and my rejection rate is approx 98% pure to waste.

There is a submersible pump hose and nozzle for quick fill pure from IBC to delivery system in van.
