Purified water query

Cheers they are over an hour away and ive got no means of transporting water in bulk.

Im thinking of getting a 500lt tank in my garage and having it filled but cost of doing this looks like it could get expensive.
If you're anything like me, you'll be switching over slowly and starting with tops.  A cheap option is to buy a few water butts, two DI vessells, some resin and a pump.  I use harvested rainwater 90% of the time from 5 200L water butts.  I use about 750L of water a week and this works really well for me and rarely have to go back to the tap.

Could you have a word with your neighbour and see if he'll let you run a hose and an electric cable from your house to your garage?

That way you could set up your own processing system in the garage. You should be able to do it neatly with a little care and thought. I know I wouldn't mind helping a neighbour if they needed me to. You would have much more comfort and a much easier time. You could process in a corner and insulate (box in) the system. A small thermostatically controlled tube heater for the rare occasions when it's really freezing and you'd be well away.

Maybe offer to clean his windows every six weeks to return the favour? You do need to be planning for long term and ultimately having a van. Now is the time for thinking ahead rather than going off half cocked, which would be so easy.

FYI, my processing system cost about £1200 six years ago including : 1000 litre ibc, pressure booster pump, double filter, treble pre filter, and 600 gpd ro plant, 2 di vessels, resin, transfer pump

Sorry for lecture.

Best of luck. ?

Hey HWCS.Check out "Spotless Water".Pure water,no Tds  (Total Dissolved Solids)...Leaves a Pure fresh finish.3.5p + vat per litre.Worth a look.Better & cheaper than RO/DI methods.Good Luck chap.

I personally wouldn't consider the neighbour an option as will end up been an issue for them no doubt , water production can take hours so you will need access to their property every day and if they turn the tap off for some reason and forgot to turn it back on and you have no water, far better to be independant.

As far as I am aware Norfolk is hard to very hard water area and can have a tap tds of over 300ppm, you also need to know waht your water pressure is like as you may need a booster pump, A water tank can be 200ltr water butt for now bought cheaply it's the R/O that's most likely going to be your biggest investment so you need work out which one you need based on your tap tds etc and get yourself a shopping list put together

as @Den has said the plastic sheds are decent enough to serve a purpose, I started off with one to store my R/O and a 300ltr water butt over 11 years ago and only just upgraded to a 350ltr water butt around 6 weeks ago, my set up is a small shed, in amongst all the stuff there is an R/O in there with a booster pump and all nicely insulated, but I have to pump the water 30 metres to my van tank each morning and my garage is a bit further, so no option of running hose to my garage and having a tank in there

It's not any better than what you can make yourself, and it is not cheaper in the long run. (A few months depending on usage).

I wasn't suggesting using the neighbours water or electricity, or needing access to their property, other than running a hose and cable neatly across the edge of their property, if they were agreeable. In return they would get their windows cleaned regularly. You're right though, in that most people will rarely help each other when put to it. Others of us are only delighted to help folks along.

If processing in the garden is a viable option that would be better for sure as you can't beat being totally independent.

It's not difficult or expensive to build a small shed for a 1000 litre ibc tank and processing plant. I'd be thinking of the 1000 litre ibc as it would allow for business expansion and also a bit of extra water storage to cope with  the occasional breakdown.

I started with a single 300 gpd system from Streamline and simply added a second 300 gpd housing ro in parallel when i got busier to increase the processing speed,
