When I do a first clean then I clean all windows 3 times. Firstly I scrub all the windows and clean above vents and inside vents then I go back and clean all the windows and frames. Usually clean the doors now with the pink stuff on any stubborn bits and complete a good rinse and check how they turned out. If still have stubborn bits then I scrub with pink stuff until I'm happy but only with white pvc doors. Lastly I go back and start cleaning the glass only and do a good rinse. It takes 30mins and I use alot of pure but I have never had any complaints doing it this way so it works for me. When you complete a first clean and the customer is more than happy then they will be happy from then on. If the opposite happens then the next clean they can be looking for faults to pull you up again. That's the reason I have resorted to the 3 clean method on first cleans because it works for me. ?

As for thinking you had won over a 'loyal customer', that person was someone else's 'loyal customer' till you came along offering a free clean - the next person that comes along in a few months and offers another free clean will probably win the 'loyal customer' from you!
For the past ten years, he remained dedicated to his previous service provider. However, my introduction of a unique selling proposition changed the dynamics. This exemplifies the core principle of business – the continual refinement of my services to ensure his ongoing loyalty.
 
I keep away from retail like shops because I feel I am swimming against the tide. Some shops can't afford the business rates never mind the rent, electricity, gas, water rates never mind the shoplifting so I think cleaning windows is way down in their list. I did an accountants office and it was hard work because no one wanted to do it and he only wants it done every 3 months. Too much hassle when you can clean a street and maybe get more in the estate. We all run a business and win and lose quotes on a regular basis. I am 99.9999% certain that I wouldn't lose a job to someone that is more expensive than me. I am actually 90% certain I wouldn't lose a residential job that was cheaper than me.
I don't understand why you try and belittle someone by saying it shows the type of person they are by quoting jobs other people are doing. If you've changed any service, supermarket, van insurance etc etc then in your warped way of thinking the company you've gone with are somehow immoral

As its just not morally right imo. And if I've changed that means I've went looking. Completely different scenario from approaching places and trying to take there work.

You have kinda admitted you've done a worse job with leaving the windows all spots.
 
I quoted a chip shop for 2 windows inside and out plus a door at £25 last year. He told me at his last chip shop he was paying a fiver a time on his previous shop. £25 was for twice over the week not the once.

Do another shop 2 windows and a door outsides only and get £21. You could do 10 in an hour making £50. Finding 80 shops a day close enough together will be something you won't have enough work for though on a daily basis
 
I believe that creating clusters of closely located retail shops can lead to significant profitability. My goal is to eventually manage up to 10 shops per hour. The first six shops I won were within a 100-meter walking distance. Earning £50 per hour is easily achievable.

While I can't reveal my unique selling proposition (USP), one effective strategy that applies to any business is offering a trial when you're confident in your USP.

Among the six shop owners, one insisted on paying if satisfied with my work, but I politely declined, explaining my policy of providing complimentary service to everyone initially. I could see the appreciation in his eyes, and it was clear that I had won over a loyal customer.

Despite my initial cleaning failures, he was one of the two shop owners who agreed to have me return.

I am lucky enough to have a business mentor who happens to be the founder of a tech company and a B2B sales specialist. When he inquired about the key elements in my sales pitch that led to my successful conversions, I mentioned the free trial. He shared his own experience of encountering numerous sellers who promised a lot but failed to offer a free trial.
Don’t want to be rude but £50 an hour isn’t very good money per hour especially on commercial work we earn considerably more than that on 3 bed semis and only move a few hundred yards in a day . Most chain stores use national firms as an example Santander in my town have a national company they pay £12 per clean for 12 Windows and a door outside , and the same inside plus the screens ware the staff sit and have to clean the suround on the cash machine , it takes a minimum of 25 muinits to do then they have to que to to get the docket signed by the manager , no thanks it’s not for me I was doing that type of work 24 years ago when I started very quickly realised it was a total waist of time , boots, Superdrug, and most others work on exactly the same principle and still do . A friend of mine does a local mc Donald’s inside and out 2 times a week for £25 a clean takes him an hour each time and it has to be done before 7am again crazy money .
I don t see how you with zero experience in cleaning windows by your own admission and having cleaned them and had them covered in spots is going to come up with some magical formula to gain customers it sounds to me like you can talk the talk with selling your services but cannot walk the walk with doing the job , ime not being rude by saying this but feel you need to learn how to clean a window to a high standard before trying to sell your services to an unsuspecting customer .

What is a good figure to aim for commercially? I earn between £40 to £50 mostly on my commercial work but on some between £25-30. But the work is okay because I can get on it early and off before anyone is in. But sometimes I think with that work is it worth it compared to my residential. But because of the ability to get on and off before 6am gives me the option of the flexibility. I live in the north west England?

I've found a mentor who has been already incredibly beneficial. Their support has given me the confidence to venture into the business world, despite being naturally introverted. For introverted beginners pursuing big or small dreams, crafting a sales script can significantly boost your confidence. Practice it with mentors, family, or friends, and then venture out to test it. In your sales pitch, be ready to address potential objections. Be genuine, be yourself. Being introvert can be an advantage.

However, before serving them the following week, I plan to undergo proper training. I understand that it's not just a matter of watching a few YouTube videos and assuming I can do it.
 
I think the end goal here is he's wanting people to pay for this 100% bullet proof coaching that it seems no other window cleaner has thought of before.

This is the most likely route this is going down.

Personally I would learn to clean the windows to an excellent standard before selling your service. Your goal should be to learn to clean windows first now that you know your method for gaining customers works!

Once you have learned to clean windows properly to an excellent standard you will also know how long each job will take and that will enable you to quote to achieve your desired hourly rate. How can you quote without knowing how long it will take? Your charges need to reflect the time it will take you.
 
There are quite a few like 'Tradman' his early stuff is better as he is sponsored a bit too much now, Polzn Bladz - he does think a lot of himself and he does drag his vids out but he has some good points.
If you are in an apartment block it might be worth doing your initial practicing on your own windows (insides) that way you don't have the added pressure of people watching. Once you have mastered your own windows then do the commercial areas - if you have permission and insurance - damaging a large glass pane in a corridor wont be cheap if you damage it as they will be toughened glass!

Everyone has there own targets and there is no right or wrong it’s what you are happy with , some say that they can’t get the prices up north that you can get down south but we achieve the same hourly rates from Cornwall to London can’t comment on further afield . Personal I feel £50 per hour now running your own business is a bare minimum for a sole trader preferably a lot higher , but again that’s my personal thoughts and some won’t agree or say it’s not possible. When I started 24 years ago I started on around £15-18 per hour and quickly realised that it was not enough so aimed for £30 per hour back then and did it fairly easily and that was trad not WFP , times have moved on and the cost of everything has risen dramatically so don’t feel £50 per hour is over the top as a basic hourly rate .

Someone who sells there house and moves back in with there parents as a middle aged man is hardly what I would call a role model but each to there own ????

I just practiced on my own windows everyday till I was sick looking at them. The neighbours did ask why I was cleaning my windows all afternoon. ?
 
Honestly fellas I smell a very smelly rat. I wouldn’t even entertain a reply to this guy now. Poaching peoples work at a more expensive price and for a worse job.
Never heard so much rubbish in my whole 40 years shining.
I will stick to my own tried and trusted methods and although I was initially interested in this supposed ‘unique selling proposition’ I now could not care less.
And remember this is just my opinion ?
