Yes actually it does matter, most of the new guys will be hungry for work. We are all just fish swimming in the same pond, eventually it has an effect. Its a symptom of the economy gradually moving downwards. You can't just say it won't affect you.

One chip shop in a town then another one opens. Will the people in the town suddenly start eating twice as many chips as before?

Ye but aslong as you got a strong round then u dont need to worry... doesnt matter how many cleaners their are... aslong as your out their getting customers then thats a good result for u mate.... provide a good service and the customers will be happy with u /emoticons/smile.png

a chip shop is totally diffrent cos the location of that chip shop has a specific customer base... so if another chip shop opens ... then obviously its going to hurt the business !

if the chip shop could move about then this wouldnt be the case mate ...

this doesnt only got for chipshops it goes for all types of businesses such as takeaways, conveniance stores etc

Were window cleaners.... theirs plenty of glass for all of us /emoticons/smile.png you just got to get in the right place at the right time /emoticons/smile.png

i tend to agree with H, yes it will get more difficult to pick work up if there are more windys canvassing in your area, but you will always pick some up, and once you got them all you need to do is provide a good regular service at a reasonable price and you will have a steady customer base for years!

Just wondering how many window cleaners loose work due to someone else knocking doors offering a cheaper but so say the same quality of service?

I've also noticed a trend that some ppl don't want their windows cleaned so regular now due to money being so tight. Its defo getting harder out there to gain new quality regular work and retain customers but guess that's down to the recession. Window cleaners going around undercutting each other forcing the price down is no good for anyone either.

I've just had a trad guy phone me up wanting work as he has just been made redundant from a window cleaning firm he work for 9 years. That should tell you something chaps surely? The downturn in the economy is affecting even the big boy’s too.

Well I've just been to my lads harvest festival and going up street saw another 2 lads in a transit cleaning top house on street and I've never seen them before, ibc in back, brodex poles. On way back saw another trad guy doing post office and never seen him before either, credit where it's due though this guy was a pro, 2 handed with mop and squeegee and smart uniform as well. I make that just on my street and high street behind us, including myself cos I do a dozen between the 2 streets 11 different window cleaners that I know of and streets are no longer than 2 football pitches. It's like window cleaner central now when we're all out lol.

Best ones of all is to work in a street and doing the windows either side of a window cleaners house with his van sat parked on his drive. I did not have the bottle to knock on his door to see if he wanted his windows cleaned aswell /emoticons/biggrin.png

whoever loses work cos they been undercut should not worry to much... because these are type of customers u dont want... they dont care about u ..... they will keepo ditching and ditching just to get it cheaper /emoticons/smile.png

a good customer of mine would not want anoither cleaner for doing it at a lower price because their happy with my service

again H, i completely agree, if someone knocked on any of my customers houses and offered the same service at a lower price i wouldnt be worried, my customers know i do a good job and i charge fairly so i wouldnt lose them!

I know this subject has been done before many times but this week it has really been obvious. So many new vans around cleaning windows that I have never seen before. All signwritten and very professional looking.

A trad guy came over and asked to see my wfp setup. I didn't mind, even let him have a go but I could imagine a lot would have told him to **** off.

This business is getting very saturated now. Its still about the easiest business to start if you get slung on the scrapheap made redundant.

Yep, there are more window cleaning vans on the road, I don’t think its saturated – yet - wfp window cleaning is growing, and will continue to do so.

Window cleaning is now far more appealing to very broad range of people who would never have considers doing this type of work for a living before.

Yep because it looks easy now and they don't have to climb ladders.

That’s it Dodger, a lot also think commercial work is now possible right from the start, some window cleaners who have been going years, still don’t touch this type of work.

Yep, me I'm happy doing what I'm doing the way I'm doing it although just a little more refining on the pump /emoticons/smile.png . I'll go wfp properly one day when I need to but still I'm years away from the big stuff, I'm still learning trad and I don't reckon anyone should run before they can walk.

With respect I don't see the logic in that myself dodger. Spending out on a van & proper wfp kit that could save you time and generate more income is defo a no brainer for me. I know some ppl can't afford to go fully wfp on external work due to money being tight but it so cheap now to get setup properly unlike the old days /emoticons/smile.png

Messing about with a trolley type system for tops then having to trad bottoms must be a pain in the **** for you?

Yeah see ya point Smurf but I only get pole out when I need to, I'm pretty handy and I know I could put a good enough system in my stilo let alone a van for peanuts but I am actually enjoying what I'm doing and dj'ing still earns the real money until I decide to give this all my time.

Not being able to afford it isn't an issue, it's not why I use the pump I do now either but although the stuff I use actually is small and is just a case of lifting out boot you are right that part can be a pain sometimes but I've started banging a couple quid on the price when I use it so alls good.
