As it’s that bloody time of year again.. I’m thinking about insulating the inside of the back of the van before winter fully sets in in the vague hope things won’t freeze *quite* as easily as they normally do.

Has anyone done this and have anything to recommend?

I’ve been looking at:

But all of these look much of a muchness to me. Trying to time all this work to get done at the same time as upgrading the ply lining (and fitting the dining room table sized solar panel that’s currently clogging up my spare room).

As usual, should have thought about this earlier in the year 😂

Yes those type of insulation products do work . Look at camper van products as well

I did mine in dec 2022 with the foil bubble wrap stuff and it's been fine. Oil rad in back over frosty days (tonight!) and still frost on roof in morning, so at least some heat is being retained within the van.
I use double sided tape (44920 £4.49) and ali tape (97723 £4.49) from toolstation and 10m x 1.05m YBS thermowrap insulation from Screwfix (9691P £36). Took a few hrs to stick double sided tape to surfaces then cut and stick insulation to that, it's held up fine. I then used the ali tape to seal joints and edges. I did roof and behind all the plywood/plastic side panels.

I use an oil filled radiator overnight if forecast below zero and take a broom and ice melt grit with me to work for the paths and driveways(if the customer consents of course)

That's all you need really unless you use a cold water system then I'd advise also to take a flask of hot water with you in case your jets freeze up on the really cold days.🙂👍

😱 £127 I did the same as @ched999uk I went to Toolsation and Screwfix.

although I didn't put my oil-filled rad in the van last night and it's currently -2 should be fine as my van is fully insulated I even did the floor in mine.

If you do a search, @ched999uk put up some photos of his van when he did the job. I was going to carpet the interior roof of my van this past summer, but never got around to it. I was going to use some of that stretch carpet that they use in some van conversions.

Thanks will look this up today. Did you do the bulkhead as well? I’m guessing that’s not needed and just the sides / rear doors

I didn't do the bulkhead as my tank is bolted close plus at the bottom is where I store my gutter vac poles so wouldn't last long.
I did roof, doors and sides, as much as I could. My van has plastic lower panels on sides and bottom of doors, I didn't do those. I probably should for maximum insulation. I did a single layer on roof and 2 layers on side panels behind plywood (mine are plastic).

I've nearly completed insulation of my van. I used the 10mm insulation from Dodomat. We'll see how it goes over the winter.

Looks good, try and make sure any damp air can't get behind the insulation as it will just cause condensation behind the insulation. Seal the insulation to the walls at all the edges.

The advice I got from Dodomat was that condensation shouldn't be too much of a problem (even with a water tank installed), as there's no cooking being done in the van and no one is sleeping in it. I took their advice and chilled out about it! Time will tell though.

I haven't done this for a window cleaning van but I have recently soundproofed and insulated my Transporter. I'm just about to upgrade 2 of my vans and both of those will have the same treatment. layer of sound proofing first, then 6mm Dodomat insulation and then ecofleece lining. The fleece lining is primarily recycled plastic so doesn't hold water the way some household insulation might. I know you're not doing camper conventions here but I would suggest looking at the how to videos from Combe Valley campers on you tube.
