You are implying that we are pish heads and alcoholics who get drunk every day, it's very rare I even get drunk I have a couple of beers in an evening and a few more on a weekend, I'm a real ale drinker who enjoys trying different beers, I don't drink to get drunk.

More than 25 years ago I was a drug addict an acholic and a gambler, you can't tell me much about addiction that I don't already know, people with addictions have something missing in their lives and have a mental battle going on, they have addictions to fill a void, when that void becomes filled with something else then they can kick the addiction(s) I can drink and not get carried away with it because I have no void to fill I have everything I need with my wife and family

maybe when you see a drunk person you see a reflection of what you were or could have been in another life, we all make personal choices and we had this out before on here, the lads I know on here ain't alcoholics

Now you go off and enjoy your drumming

Are you my twin! Same as you mate. A long time ago now but drugs, alcohol and gambling were my very serious poisons also. I haven’t gambled for years or taken drugs but I do like a glass of wine. I certainly won’t be lectured to for that one ‘vice’!
Good on you for turning your life around buddy.
It was a woman that turned my life around too 😃
I wouldn’t pay too much attention to our resident life coach.
Instead of the preaching he would be better served offering advice and encouragement.
After all he’s been there.
But there you go. As the saying goes ‘there’s always one’. There used to be two but he’s off peddling his nonsense in another place.
Happy thoughts everyone. Spring is upon us!

Dry January makes me laugh! Average joe's trying to convince themselves their not addicted to alcohol by abstaining for one month as if it's a real achievement!

It just shows how embedded alcohol is in our culture/history

Most people are addicted to alcohol just to varying degrees...try leaving it alone for a year most won't even make it til the end of the week....sad really

Life is much much better without any alcohol whatsoever and for sure it would be for my long suffering brothers but they just can't leave it alone!👎

Try not going to the gym for a year and perving on young women working out I bet you couldn't last longer than a week 😜

Because of my current health condition I haven’t had a drink for 3 weeks. No problem whatsoever. I’m looking forward to having a drink next weekend but certainly not desperate.
Your constant preaching and holyia than thou attitude is tiresome. Several members have mentioned it now.
Why don’t you get in touch with Scottish?
Your brother from another mother 👍

Drinking alcohol is fools gold...so many people(esp local guys around here)end up taking their own lives....

As for pub 'banter' it might be funny for 5 mins but I know of guys who were life and soul of the party, always laughing and joking then committed suicide on the way home from the pub....pub banter is BS and you won't find happiness in the bottom of a glass,it's a depressant,it lowers your testosterone, empty calories (resulting in a beer gut for many)and makes you very unattractive to the opposite sex......its a complete waste of time and money but drinkers keep drinking it as if it's the elixir of life itself! (Insidiously weakening your body and mind like a slow death).....😆

The thing is your a funny guy and could enjoy yourself and crack jokes sober when you go out but feel you have to defend alcohol to the 10th degree when it does absolutely nothing for you...alcohol doesn't love you mate...

Don't worry I avoid most window cleaners when out and about....just because we do the same job doesn't mean I want to be pals with them!🤣🤣

Could be a brother from another mother 🤔 I think for most of us around our age it was normal, the drinking and going to bookies in working class areas, the drugs came along some of us got hooked and got out eventually sadly some didn't and some will never change or break habits,

My wife came along just at the right time and was and is the one person that could and can fill the void

That’s so true re the working class areas. Loved the Saturdays spent back and forth from the bookies and the pub.
And also true that sadly some of us were lucky and left the drugs behind but others just couldn’t get out of it and are either dead or in a very bad way.

The trouble with Metforim is that it also zaps necessary minerals from your body. But no one has informed me of what supplements I need to take to supplement these. The wife has done this for me.
I believe that’s one they put my wife’s gran on and it threw her sodium levels out of whack landing her in hospital for a few days. She’s 90 this year so you always wonder at that age if it will make it home to be honest. I do think the NHS could save a lot of money by looking at people’s vitamin levels and health. We don’t have a health service, we have a sick service.
Once you get over 70 the NHS treats us older ones differently. As far as prostate cancer is concerned they are now just monitoring its progress as I'm told I will probably die of natural causes before they have to intervene. We have a customer where his prostate cancer has spread. We have cleaned his windows for 20 years. He is in his 80's and still keeps an allotment going. They have only just started chemo, expecting he would die before this. A few years ago they could have just removed his prostate, but they let it progress to this state, just monitoring it. His death by natural causes will be prostate cancer.

None of our customers who have had chemo have faired well.
It does seem they do it in the hopes of killing the cancer before killing the patient 😞
At 73 I have extended my Biblical 3 score and ten life expectancy by 3 years. I'm referred to as having extra mightiness.
Where I grew up they used to say you’re aiming for 3 score and ten but you’ll take the 3 score. Both my nan and gramp died at 60. My mum used to say she’d go then too, she managed to make it to 62. In today’s day and age you can keep going though mate. Using your car analogy, they can replace and or fix a lot more parts than they used to be. Failing that, it’s time to get a dodgy MOT

The thing is those people are people who need help. That’s what people started off suggesting for Adam and essentially he wants it, that’s why he’s been open and honest about his lifestyle and how he’s feeling.

There are plenty of people who don’t need or want help. They’re happy with their decisions. It’s the same as someone preaching their religion to someone. They truly believe their way is better, that’s essentially where you’re at with your opinion on drinking. If someone wants help I’m sure they’d appreciate it. If they’re happy with their life and what they do then who are we to tell them otherwise. The same as someone preaching their religion, if you’re happy with your life who are they to force god down your throat. Or flip it to atheism, who are they to tell religious people that god isn’t real. Live and let live.

I say this from a relatively neutral perspective. I drink less units in a year than Steve or PT would put away over the weekend sometimes. I do drink though.
