How come these people are above the law, doing vans left right and centre, got a tip off from a copper make sure you lock your van.

Bloody typical as my set up is up for sale.

The copper said these window cleaning vans are like magnets to them.

Be on your guard lads.

I think what the OP means  is that Travellers who break into vans are scum. . . . like anyone else who breaks into vans really.  Let's not get too PC. . . . !  ?
I think he means every pikie on the planet ?,  yeah I was hopeful he just didn’t word it right ,

Lol.  Seriously though I don't understand these 'offensive' terms.  Who is actually genuinely offended?  I can't imagine travellers have formed a pressure group to remove the word 'pikeys' from the dictionary and lobbied Westminster.  I think it just offends the professionally offended types tbh lol

The honest truth is that they aren't above the law, but they're difficult to catch, even more so with Police cuts.  On top of that when they are caught the Justice system is a joke.  Not much of a deterrent!

From the English "turnpike", the place where itinerent travellers and thieves would camp near a settlement.

Pikey is not a racial group, the term is used to describe anyone who lives in a caravan or shares the same values and "culture" of "the travelling community", and whose main sources of income are as follows:

Stealing cars, flogging roses in pubs for "childrens' charities", nicking lead off roofs, burgling garden sheds, blagging entry to old peoples house to rob them, doing dodgy tarmac jobs ("we've got some black stuff left over from a job up the road"), sometimes with mint imperials used as a substitute for white chippings, or, reportedly, using snow to lay slabs on when the sand ran out, stealing your ******** if they weren't in a bag and anything else that's not nailed down and anything that is nailed down but will fit in the back of an untaxed Transit when nobody's looking.

Characterised by lurchers on a string, a unintelligible language that "isn't English, it isn't Irish, it's just Pikey" (source: Film: Snatch), a penchant for harecoursing, ketamine, lighter fuel, fighting in pubs and shopping at Lidl.

Best avoided.

People who get offended by proxy or being offended on behalf of someone else even if that person isn't themselves offended.  Happens a lot on twitter and other social media although I wasn't aiming that comment at you just a general observation of our current politically correct world.

Hope that doesn't offend anyone.
And the word *** comes from the term westernised oriental gentlemen, would think that might offend a lot of people

It's that offensive it's been censored, but you should get the gist

Offense is a load of bull

If something i say makes someone feel offended that is their problem..

What offends one may not offend another and you can't spend your life worrying that someone may feel offended or you would never say anything

Too many snowflakes nowadays.

Oh that has really offended me?

Plenty of pikeys are very wealthy i.e. own multiple properties/construction firms/fairgrounds rides ect...

BTW I'm not a pikey but I've worked for them on construction sites, always paid me, gave me work when I needed it. Never had an issue with them. Never stole my belongings or the clients belongings..

I clean the windows for a few who have got houses near here.

If everyone paid up as quick as they do it would be great.

The first 32 years of my working life was in the scrap metal industry, where you come across a lot of travellers. Usually as long as you treated them with respect they reciprocated. However if you didn't keep your eyes on them the vast majority would try and pull a stroke.

At the end of the day all nationalities/cultures have rogue members. Who will rob you... Where I come from in Manchester theives will break in to rob you of a fiver... There're skint junkies...

Look at the rich as well though how they avoid paying tax... Suppose everyone trys it on.

I'm half paddy and born n bred in London but doesn't make me a dodgy geezer although when people hear my dodgy London accent they automatically assume I'm a wrong un.

Same with the traveller community.. you assume they are all bad but most are normal people who live differently.

It's not always about people being soft and offended at everything.

It's about this being on an open public community and actually does it matter what background the person comes from or nationality etc if they are robbing vans then yes they are scum regardless of the other titles which don't need to be there.

Title has been edited. Please keep this topic on track or it will be removed.

Where I live the 'travelling community' frequently drive around our estate collecting metal and other stuff.  I once met a young chap of a traveller persuasion helping himself to our iron garden chairs.  When I challenged him he said he though we had left our iron garden furniture out for collection.  I told him I found it hard to understand how he had decided that our BBQ and garden lights had also been left for collection.  He had put them all at the end of the garden ready for him to put on the back of his van.  He walked off.  I was not going to argue with him, he was big and could have easily leathered me.

To add insult to injury, later in the week.  Two vans had been peeled on the same street.  Thefts from sheds and vans seem to happen on the state after our lovely traveller scrap metal lads have been driving around.  Do the police care?  No...

Also known as drama queens. Oh and yes I agree with you. It does seem that there has been a growth in the number of people who deliberately choose to be offended when someone says something that can be twisted somehow.

What amazes me is that people have no issue with the police describing people as  "IC1,2,3,4" etc - a perfect opportunity to thrown an accusation of racism if ever i saw one but everyone just accepts that. If you say black man... racist. If you say IC4 nobody gives a stuff even though it's the same thing. Now i've said it, it'll only be a matter of time before the IC codes become politically incorrect..

Ultimately it's a slur and laughable, my roots go back to Ireland and I have an Irish name as do a few lads on here, there is a camp near me and I have dealt with some of them and found them no different to most people, some of the people robbing round my area come from families that don't what work is and have been wrong un's for years and they are born and bred local people.

I grew up in the countryside and and hunting and coursing were done for food as we had nowt and it's traditional for a good many social classes to hunt and I and many other people have a penchant for shopping in Lidl when there is a bargain to be had,

You might think me a pikey at one point if you turned up outside my house with me butchering pheasants and ducks on the tailgate of my L200 ? and a load of rabbits on my garage floor.
