Which roof scraper would you recommend.

Scraping the roof clear of moss etc is great idea, it seems to come away easy, but then surely they wouldnt need the gutters cleared in the future? That moss must take years to grow. How much do most charge to scrape an average size semi roof? Its new to me, but i'd guess a day for one person, and get upwards from £250?
I generally charge between £10-15sqm dependant on moss, access, chem used etc. A standard up & over roof I charge £550-650 it’s hard graft you wouldn’t want to be doing it for any less.

Once cleaned you can offer maintenance sprays every year or two to keep the moss away and keep their roof looking bang on.

A couple of days including biocide and triple that price in some areas. At least double.
Yes this is what to beware of. underestimating work.

I will be weary if taking one of these on. Guess is worth it once got the hang.

I have a roof to do on Monday and will take some photos to see how it turns out. Anyway, I was PW today and had a lot of white lichen which came away easily. I could have softwashed it then PW it but what's the point if the PW removes it. I will now PW an area first and spot softwash the black lichen which is hard to remove, this will save me a lot of hypo in the future. ?

I just bought the pro Marshall scrappers. Only got half of them so far, according to his Facebook page seems to be very in demand. I can’t wait to try them out.

RW how did you place your order and how long was the wait? Did your partial order come with an eta for the rest?

About a week, and no I didn’t get information regarding the rest. I sent a email but no news back yet.
I’m not angry or worried, hopefully will have it all next week. If I was him I’d just wait and send it all in one parcel.

Has anyone got a contact number for Pete Marshall though?

I've looked in vain for a number - no joy - even on the contact page on their website ? it's blank...

How did you order - via his website?

It does look like good kit, (like his sprayer aswell) as far as I can tell it's the 'original', several outlets now offer lookylikies...

Reading past comments on his fb page lots of comments asking for etas/callbacks/'oi where's my gear'....so obviously communication isn't his strong point - sounds like the kit eventually turns up...

He needs PR guy/gal like yesterday

I sent a email
RW - Wow you got an email address - can you share it or pm me with it? Cheers

It seems like he has an ongoing issue with supplying the demand. @RWCleaning is being really calm about it but on his FB page people are a little less so. I found it quite arrogant that he put “no negativity on this post please”. There are quite a few commenting saying he is ignoring messages as you say. Full disclosure, I have no horse in the race here and am not waiting for a delivery of them, so ??‍♂️

I personally think he should just throw out a 28day turnaround on orders and accept the lower sales rate or change his operating system  to supply them faster

I would just go with what @Pjj has done or something similar why pay £100's when you don't have to and he can afford to ? I also don't see the point of pishing around with a pressure washer if you don't have to as they create a whole load of mess plus risk getting on roofs.

All this talk of spraying chems is everyone taking the right precautions also in terms of H&S to safeguard themselves and the public, respirator mask and all the ppe, seems lads are getting into this more, I just don't want a newbie on here or a lurker to go out and be spraying chems without knowing what they should be doing and doing everything by the book.

I am going to start off doing my own house and some of mine and my neighbours shared areas, taking baby steps to ensure I do things cautiously and as they should be done.

Yeh sure, it was on a public website so need need to p.m it:

[email protected]

I actually have my first roof clean in 3 weeks, I was hoping to get in some good practice before hand.

And yeh ordered via website

I’ll steam clean a roof from the scaffolding but I wouldn’t pressure wash one just isn’t for me not saying it’s wrong... I’m happiest up the scaffolding radio on sun out scraping away ??

I don't see the problem using a PW to clean roofs. Its mostly moss on the roof and comes away fairly easily. I use salvage sheets to cover the ground now.
I am looking at it from a safety aspect more, putting yourself on house roof working on a  cat ladder with water around, one wrong move and it could be a different story, if you slip and land badly onto the cat ladder how do you propose you would get yourself off the roof with an injured back or badly injured wrist, plus get the cat ladder down and ladder and get all your gear put away.

I don't see any common sense in putting ones self in danger when there are far safer methods that are readily available !!

I always were a harness  and tie it out to a sound object, a chimney is good but you can screw in an eye bolt into the ridge. Its a roof ladder that i use on the roof, the one that hooks over the ridge tiles. Its the wind one must watch out for but I see your point, you either like heights or you don't, doesn't seem to bother me.

Heights don't bother me I was trad for over 8 years and have no issues with ladders as such just my well being, I would sooner work much more safely to avoid an accident, a cat ladder is what we called roof ladders years ago, it's good that you wear a harness and tie it out, but you still run the risk of slipping and landing badly, also as you work alone my point I believe is still valid regarding potential injury and how you would get yourself off the roof.

Scottish...Safety is like experience, often you don't value it until you're looking back ?

Speak to any free climber/wingsuit flyer they all know someone who's died - 41 worldwide (wingsuit) at the last count...

almost the exact number killed JUST in the UK last year by a fall from height (roofs)

The number one cause of death at work (UK) is - falling from heights (roofs) - hence this is one of THE most risky behaviours could can do at work (insert pun here) killing more people (40) at work in 2019 than any other cause - so should be considered deadly.

https://www.hse.gov.uk/construction/faq-height.htm

High risk: almost one in five deaths in construction work involve roof work. Some are specialist roofers, but many are just repairing and cleaning roofs.

Can I use a roof ladder for roof repair work?

Yes, providing more suitable equipment cannot be used because ladders are a last resort and should only be used for low risk, short duration work*
* few minutes rather than hours

Is there a wind speed above which roofing work should stop?

Do not consider going on any roof in poor weather conditions such as rain, ice, frost or strong winds (particularly gusting) or if slippery conditions exist on the roof.  Winds in excess of 23mph (Force 5) will affect a persons balance.
Given your soaking (using a PW - don't even get me started on that one) the roof and making it slippery you'll be creating the exact conditions which the HSE says you should not use a roof ladder in  ? and working for hours not minutes, low risk (hardly) and roof ladders aren't the last resort - (ground/cheery pickers/towers) Even if your self employed the HSE applies

Also you should be maintaining at least three points of contract with the ladder at all times ?

?

And breathe......

watch out for those paper cuts on the course ?...you lead a cushy life...
